We've been planning this trip for ages and we were gonna go in December. One of my nay sayer friends claims he "heard" that it sucked in December and that nothing outside San Jose was open i.e. rafting, zip lining etc.

Any opinions on this? If it's dead the girls are cheaper right?

SunRA

Edit: City correction.

I assume your friend has a fat gringa wife and is jealous he can't go. Early to mid December is awesome, it's the high (tourist) season. The weather is great, and I'm sure everything (zip lines, rafting, rain forest, etc) is open since there are many ecotourists coming in those days.

Many, but not all, of the girls will lower their price is the guy:girl ratio is heavily against them. If there's fewer guys and many more girls, the smart ones realize guys have lots of choices, so they are more flexible. They still quote cien (usually) but will be more willing to negotiate. The dumb ones will stick to their cien, no matter what the ratio is, some will get it, others go home broke.

A lot of truth in that statement, O. I've run into that more than once. 8)

December is always a nice time for North Americans to visit warm, sunny climates where the beer is cold and the girls are hot. Keep in mind, though, that it may be tourist season.

While the government basically shuts down in December the private sector, malls, theaters, tourist attractions including rafting, zip lines, waterfalls, etc., will be in full swing.

The period right around Christmas sucks, relatively. Xmas Eve and NY Eve are dead. Other than that, it's business as usual for tourism, monger or otherwise.

First of all welcome to the board. I cannot speak of CR in Dec from personal experience, but something you said caught my attention.

There are no "blue light specials" or times of the year where girls are "cheaper".

Especially as a newbie I would start getting used to the fact (speaking of independents i.e DR BM KL etc.) that the price is largely going to depend on you. Most will quote $100 per hour and the negotiations generally will begin there.

Of course you can go the MP route which can also be a great time, like shooting fish in a barrel. At MP's there are set prices but you might have to wait until you see something you like.

So although all you have to do is pay for it, don't think for a second how you conduct yourself doesn't all play a part.

Again, once you hit the DR you are on your own in terms of catch, negotiation, and follow through.

The foundation of this very board are for new members like you to research so you can become armed with information in the many different aspects of mongering in CR.

And once you arrive, you might run into a CRT guy or two

Good luck amigo,

Cujo

Sunra , I have to add to this since I have nothing better to do :) Your friend reminds me of all my friends ,everyone has an excuse to not go somewhere ,though all give there blessing .The reality is people are affraid of the unknown of the third world countrys , the media really carves out alot the exagerrations.

I am planning my trip to Brazil ,I speak little portuguese little spanish and dont know anyone or anything in RIO All I know is soccoro (sokohu) it means HELP!! . Im going alone ,If you cant do it alone then you cant do it .
When i planned my trip to Cosat rica all i heard was" its the rainy season!! san Jose (not san juan) is dangerous your gonna die!! the roads are full of potholes you cant drive anywhere !! what dont you go in february?why do you need to go all the way to costa rica to get laid ?? you can do that from craigslist and get a hooker!!

None of that was true not a single thing .

Behind every man with a dream is a group of so called friends telling him he cant do it . have fun alone ,your never really alone ...! bueno suerte JG
