Post subject: | Questions |
Sorry I have so many questions, but I'd like to make the most out of my trip. I've never been to CR, but will be in San Jose for a work trip mid-November. My company will have me at the Hotel Intercontental. Does anyone know how far that is from the Del Rey? or how much a taxi service would be? Is there any bars with working girls around the Intercontental? Will girls from the Del Rey be willing to go back to the Interconental? A co-worker told me there is a bar across the streed called "las tequilas"... is that place a legitimate bar or the kind where one can find fun? Thanks for all the newbie guides, I hope someone knows of the area I will be staying. MT |

Hi, and welcome to CRT! The Intercontinental Real is a long way from any action that I know of. It will be about a $12.00 (?) ride to the Gulch. Depending upon your schedule, I'd get to town when the massage parlors are open. As far as I know, the Intercontinental is not "chica-friendly," so you'll need to get a short-time room if you take a girl from the Hotel del Rey or Sportsmen's Lodge bars. There are very nice options though. If you meet a del Rey girl you want, you can take her to a number of hotels with short-time (ST) rooms: Hotel la Oficina $24.00 or so for a couple hours. Hotel Europa (centro, not the Radisson of the same name) $20.00/hour last time I checked. The love motels in barrio San Francisco, including Motel Eden. Flophouses like the Hotel Asia, right around the corner from the HDR. Costa Rica Casino Hotel Morazan ($20.00 ST, last time I checked). Otherwise, the MPs or strip clubs will be your only option. I suggest you check out posts on Pantera Rosa and/or le Grillon. There are certainly others. Avoid the clips joints (Atlantis, Puro Platino, Elite, Hollywood, Lipsticks, Scarlett's) Tango India is nice but expensive. So... * Don't plan on taking a girl back to your hotel. Even if it were allowed, the taxi fares to/from will be prohibitive. * Think about doing sex in the massage parlors (mostly daytime/early evening) * For late night, and I do mean late (after 10:00 p.m.) try a mid-level strip club such as Pantera Rosa. They have rooms on-site for banging the strippers. Hope this helps! And again, welcome to CRT! Cheers, El Ciego |

MT, No, I know nothing about Las Tequilas, but I've never heard the name associated with prostitution. Most action of the play-for-pay variety is located in areas closer to the heart of downtown San Jose. There's the Gringo Gulch area (roughly south of Morazan Park, north of Avenida Central, east of Calle Central and west of about calle 15. There's the cluster of massage parlors on Paseo Colon about 14 blocks west of the Gulch; P. Colon becomes av. 2 downtown. There are the "zonas rojas" (Red Zones, mostly filled with low-priced '"tico" massage parlors and bars (i.e. mostly local guys go there), which can be dangerous for a newcomer or if you insist on walking around either drunk or alone at night. It would help me to know when you're coming into town and for how long you'll be staying. If you're coming in for work, presumably you'll be busy during the daylight hours which might limit your opportunities. One thing I strongly suggest is to come to the Sportsmen's Lodge either during weekend football hours or around 5:00 p.m. most days. You'll meet other CRT'ers who can help you find true love or a reasonable facsimile thereof. ![]() ![]() Bar Idem is a combination massage parlor and bar. It's expensive at between $62.00 and $72.00, depending upon which class of room you choose (the downstairs rooms with private bath are more expensive). Drinks are pricey too. ![]() If you have time before your trip, do a little more reading here. use the Search function etc. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to post them here or PM me. If I don't know the answer, chances are I know someone who does. ![]() I wish you the best on your first trip to Costa Rica. |

The hotel Morazon, one block from the Del Rey and next to the Key Largo has rooms for $35 during the week and $40 on the weekend plus taxes. Seems like a better value to just the get room for the whole day(s). Also, I stayed at the Europa Central two weeks ago. It was $50 per night taxes included. The Europa is a nice hotel, but you should take a taxi after dark to and from the Del Rey. Then there is the Hotel Johnson near market central for like $20 for the night. This place has a lot of character(s). Some would say seedy, others would say adequate. Depending on your schedule, you could party the night away, then taxi back to the Intercontinental in the AM ![]() Not sure about Tequilas, but judging by the area the Intercontinental is in I would think it is a local bar. But, considering its convenient location, I would for sure check it out. There may be a non pro love connection opportunity to be had. Enjoy your trip ![]() |
