Well, I am finally breaking out of Brasil and going to SJO in December. After 7 years and 27 times mongering in Rio, I am ready to try something else. Thanks for all the help as I will be staying at the Del-Rey as was advised. How do these two cities compare in terms of hobbying. I would appreciate an opinion from someone who has been to both. Looking forward to hearing some responses.

They are apples and oranges. Each has its own pros and cons, no pun intended. :)

Yes, they are quite different. I haven't been to Rio, but I do know that it's a gigantic city with a multitude of options, and of course it has those Brazilian girls, but it's rather pricey. SJ is much smaller and has far fewer options, but is much closer to the US and much less costly than Rio. If all you've known is Rio, then SJ is going to be a big step downward.

Have fun with the pros and lookout for the cons.

Most people including myself do start with Costa Rica and then move on to Rio. After all your Rio trips you will find San Jose to be a minor league playing ground.

I love CR, don't get me wrong. But I would not want to be a real Rio veteran trying CR for the first time. I'm not saying CR is such a step down, just that it's much easier to find solid 8+'s to have great sex with and a gfe to go along with it. It could take you a couple days to settle in to the SJO scene and start enjoying it. All you have to do in Rio is land and hit the termas and you are rolling. It's better to already know SJO and what about it you appreciate it I think.

This is so true. I went to Rio first, several years ago, and did SJO for the first time in November. It did take a few days to settle into the routine and find the GFE.

I did rio de janeiro first then San jose.Iam going to rio again in a few weeks yeah rio is better but there different and I still liked san jose and will go back again.

I think for me having tj almost in my back yard and doing it for 10 years and still at it keeps things in pespective.Being in san diego and only 30 mintutes away makes for spur of the momement trips or half day trips.

Every place has pros and cons some guys are snobs and they will only do rio and asia and diss everything else and claim they are superior mongers because they took a longer flight.

Its all about how much time you have and whats closer to where you live.Obviously TJ and coasta rica are closer to Us and spanish is spoken so more gringos are more comfortable and go to these places.

Even though everybody wants to you will have a better time if you dont try to compare everything to rio.Its like comparing fast food to a fancy dinner and bitching the food is not as good of quality.

No shit but it can still taste good and will fill you up.For me I enjoy every monger spot that Ive been to for what it is.
