8) Good Evening,
Can anyone advise if the tap water in SJ is safe to drink? When I have gone to other places (Pattaya Thialand in particular) it is suggested to use bottled water for things like brushing your teeth, drinking etc. I followed this advise the times I was there and did well. I did have drinks with ice at several of my watering holes and did fine as well. So I guess the bars had filter water for ice. What does the majority of the forum suggest?
Thanks for the help. 8)

I was told (by a local) that it's safe in San Jose as the water is treated, just like in the US. The towns outside of San Jose are not as safe. That's not saying you will get sick, but I'd be a little more careful.

I have had no problems with the water. Use it to brush my teeth and the odd glass of water. But for the most part, most of the water I drink is bottled.

IMO, the water I have tasted in CR is very palatable. There is no hint of an "off" flavor and I have never even heard of anyone suffering any ill effects from it. Although bottled water is convenient, it is not necessary. I would much prefer a glass of water with ice.

8) Good Morning Gentlemen,
Thank you all very much for your speedy replies. This is just one more thing to scratch off the never ending "list". Looking forward to my virgin trip to CR in October. The CRT site has come through again.
Thanks again. 8)

No problem with the tap water in San Jose. The guide books, Lonely Planet, etc. say that the water is safe in San Jose, but could possibly have some problems in areas outside of the city.

San Jose is fine . Just as safe as in any US city. Be careful on the Caribean side if you go there as well as in Puntarenas.
