I will be leaving for my first trip to Costa Rica on 8/1/07. Will they not acceept our money if it is not in perfect condition? Some off my bills are wrinkled and have slight markings on them. Has anybody had any problems with places acceepting there US bills?

They can be picky about US bills, best to trade in for new ones

Banks examine US dollars extremely carefully casinos less so but they generally give a poorer rate of exchange.

The higher the denomination of the bill the more intense the scrutiny.

When pulling out cash for a trip, I've always screened my bills for tears and/or writing - some bending/crinkles are generally okay.

Prior to my trip, I went to my credit union, explained the matter, and asked for new or newer bills. The V.P. was HAPPY to assist me. I suggest that you go to your bank and speak with one of your usual tellers or customer service people.

Good advice, and I do the same thing.

Before each trip, I go into my bank and tell the girl(s) that I'm traveling out of the country again, and I need good looking bills. Not a problem. They'll sift through their money, and pick out the good bills for me.

Also, don't bring any 100's with serial # starting with CB. There was a problem a while back with lots of counterfeit hundreds starting with CB. Granted, there's always ways to get around that, but you're better off with plenty of 50's and 20's. Then bring lots of small bills for tips, taxi's, drinks, etc.

Better safe than sorry....

I do not like traveling with a fat wad of bills nor do I like brand new bills so what I have done is take mostly 100's (avoiding the "CB"s) that are in very good used condition. When I need smaller denomination dollar bills I change the 100's with the desk clerk at the Presedente where I stay. There is no charge and I have bills that have already been accepted.

I have never had a bill rejected by a puta.
