Spanish is extremely helpful but not absolutely necessary if you stick to the Del Rey, SL in SJ & Cocal in Jaco. A little basic conversational Spanish can easily be learned especially if you already know French (Montreal). It will make your trip a lot more pleasant also. Learn numbers, time , food & drinks, then conversational spanish to start. It's not that difficult. My spanish is not perfect but I do put out an effort to try to learn a little on a daily basis. It is almost embarassing to listen to some of these clowns down there (& in Colombia) try to speak Spanish and have the huevos to even get angry when a local doesn't speak spanish! Some of them make Peggy Hill look like a linguist expert.

Put out a little effort & you will be glad you did!

Suerte,
CostaReeker

Welcome ColomboAnthony40!

Caretaker spot on- a little effort goes a long way! Also, just use your google translator on your phone.
It’s all good!

If you are in your 20’s, bring condoms....you will be the youngest guy at Sportsmen's and Del Rey and YOU will be the rockstar!

Good hunting...

You’re going to Medellín in May? Me too the 22-27, I’m in CR right now for Easter weekend, it uhh kinda sucked. Not too many girls available, most of them are with their families. I would go to Colombia first, they’re the A+ Good standard of Hookers in the Latin America along with the Brazilians.

The nightlight in San Jose is kinda dull, but I hear great things about Medellin and parque lleras. I’m having a hard time finding a cool night club to hang out tonight, here in San Jose. I’m in my late 20’s, so night life along with non working girls availability is important to me along with the p4p option. I think I’m over Costa Rica, but I’ll see what Colombia has for me before I turn my back on the San Jose.

At your age, there is no non hoe nightlife in San Jose, go to San Pedro the college town. A stone's throw East. if you speak Spanish, even haltingly, you will get plenty free poonage...

Even if you don't, install the interpreter app on your cell, learn how to do voice commands to it and you still will get laid. I met some mid 20's guys I vaguely knew from Miami, all Cubans who were recommended to contact me by an older friend. They came down a-hoeing and later explored, now they come down and ignore the hoes and get college girls in San Pedro with ease.

Wonder if I bought a long haired wig and some trendy 20 something clothes, met a good make up artist and wore dark sunglasses and swallowed 4 viagras and went with them next time....Nahhh...Who am I kidding...

My recommendation for youngsters coming here is to stay at the Hotel Del Rey first visit.

It's not what it once was, but then, neither is San Jose in general, but you're still in the belly of the beast. :!: :!: :!: :P

It's still the loudest wildest craziest place where hoes abound 24/7 and late gets hot like after 10:00 PM, especially after midnight and especially weekends and Wed, Thur. Even when slow it's 10x every place else.

You can wake up at 2 am to take a piss...not sure if needed at your age, lol, and ride the elevator down, take 20 minutes to interview and pick one and ride back up with her...

Wake up at 6 am, go down for breakfast and/or coffee and there's 10 there, many quite nice this early. Lower rates and more relaxed atmosphere the morning shift, lol.

Sportsmen's Lodge is a classier place in a quieter neighborhood, has a smaller contingent of hoes parading about, usually not much until 3 to 4 pm till midnight, slows down about 10:00 PM.

It's a preferred place amongst the 50 and up crowd, worth your visit to check it out, great food. Many here will tell you go there to meet other mongers and get advice, but you won't need it. :?

Many advice givers are insufferable bores and you will agonize for an excuse to escape..   .

They will tell you stay away from HDR, but they are grouchy old farts, don't like loudness, and afraid a shark will rip them off there which happens to them over and over and over....

This won't happen to you, you'll be surrounded, can pick the best of the best, and lay down the law and these ladies who are used to hitting the sack with fat, ill smelling, drunk belching farting wrinkled old cretins who can't hear well and convince themselves they are turning them on when they are grossing them out, will kill for the chance to be with you!

C'mon down and ignore my advice as well!!!

P.S. DO take my advice on this :

Ignore Jaco. :!:

It's a crime infested sh*t hole, dirty, expensive, and the better looking hoes (allegedly) go there and demand minimum cien (That's $100) and up to $200.

Most give mediocre rushed service so you're spending double for a prettier face you don't get to kiss, get worse hustled rushed service and the lights are out anyway...

You'll still have access to the top 10% 'ers in San Jose and if you're anywhere near as incredibly handsome and well built as I was at your age, you'll get many top lookers and performers super cheap and for free.   :D :D :D

My advice is stay at the Rey where everything is available and easy. Avoid the overpriced Jaco/Cocal. If you decide to come the second time you will make your second second decision based on your experiences and save lots. But for the first time, jump in feet first.

Brilliant!

So many guys advise youngsters to stay at SL, La Amistad, Castillo, maybe even Tamarillo. Not sure I spelled that right. These places, all excellent choices, in my opinion, for the 50 and up crowd, are excruciatingly boring for new trainees in their 20's and 30's.

Especially if one of us know it all advice givers captures one...

Get in the ring, young man, get in the ring!!! 8) 8) 8)

What about those of us in our 40s? Are we in no man's land? Too old for the college girls, too young to sit at the bar at the above mentioned hotels. :-)

I would recommend that a younger guy with some Spanish and some game try the bar El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte. It is a short walk / cab ride from the Del Rey. They have a facebook page with directions.

The bar has pretty good live music on a lot of nights. Monday used to be ladies night and they would draw an excellent crowd.

Definitely NOT a P4P venue but the women there are in the mood to party. Just be sure to not hit on some Tico's girlfriend.

As far as staying at the Del Rey, I am going to go against conventional wisdom and recommend against it. You should definitely hit the Del Rey bar but there are better hotels. Also if you plan on trying to "pick up" a regular woman (not P4P) she might be hesitant to go back with you to the Del Rey as it has a reputation among the Ticos too. You will also have to pay $11 to take her up to your room regardless of whether she is a hooker or not.

If you look to bring back regular dates, the Hotel Taormina would probably be good. A lot of regular Ticos frequent the casino and the restaurant so there would be no stigma for the woman returning with you. Also the Castillo and the Amistad, both under the same ownership offer a great value especially with the all inclusive.

I like the Sportsmens Lodge but you might have the same issue as with the Del Rey as the hotel does have a bit of a reputation among the locals.

On my 2017 trip to CR, on the trip back home, I had asked a Tica woman if this was the right place to wait for such and such flight, and she answered me. And then her Tico husband rejoined her, after probably witnessing my short conversation, and the guy looked at me, like he wanted to me make me airborne, but not in an airplane. He was probably 250 and 6'2. It was uncomfortable.
