Hello Fellow mongers,

Thanx for all the info on this site, it has helped me in my decision to come to costa this month. I have a few questions that I need help with if you can help. I am flying with a budget airline from the uk so will be landing in Liberia airport, what is the easiest way to get from liberia to San jose?? should I book a flight from lib to sjo or can i just goto the airport and get a flight? Can I bring GB Pounds with me? will it be hard to exchange £s?? I have been trying to email the delrey with no success, can someone tell me what the room rates are. What are the average prices for the girls for the hour and for all nite.

thanx in advance for your help boardies.

If you guys need any advice on mongering in europe or the far east, let me know as I am a veteran of places like, Germany, holland, thailand, malaysia, hong kong and singapore.

Regards

Easiest way from LIR to SJO is to book on Sansa or NatureAir - http://www.flysansa.com/
http://www.natureair.com/index.html
They each have 4-5 flights/day.
Not sure about exchanging GB £ (don't think anybody's ever asked that one) as with dollars surely your best rate will be at the banks.
http://www.delreyhotel.com/ Looks like they don't even post their room rates, sorry not sure what they are now but somebody here knows.

As far as other rates have you read this thread- https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16357

hey pacoloco

is it better to prebook my internal flight with sansa or naturair or are the prices the same if I book at the airport?

The normal rates for the hotel Del Rey are $65 a night for a standard and $85 a night for a deluxe. This is usually posted on their website being that there are no rates posted at this time I would suspect there's going to be a price change. Let me guess they will be going up. If you are going in the next few weeks you had best call as they are usually booked up three or four weeks in advance.

I'll leave that question for someone that knows for sure, maybe MuchoGusto or Orange can help. I doubt there's any price difference but have read of the risk of the plane being full if you don't book ahead of time, they're not very big planes.

And if you have any more questions about the DelRey, Lee knows every square inch of the place.

Web_dog,
Welcome to the board, and get ready for one hell of a ride!

As far as getting tickets on Sansa or Nature Air, definitely PRE-BOOK YOUR FLIGHT(S). Liberia Airport is much more mellow than SJO, and noone shows up at the Sansa counter until about 30 mins before your flight.

The Sansa agent's name (in Liberia) is Juan. He's a great guy, but he's real slow with paperwork, and with checking everyone in. Whenever he's not sure about something, he'll call the main office in SJO. I can't imagine what he'd do if he actually had to book your flight for you!

If you're bringing a lot of luggage, prepare to pay a little more at the counter when checking in. They only allow about 25 lbs per person, then charge $1 per pound over that. They'll also put you on the scale and get your weight. If you're more than 250 lbs, they might ask you to book another seat.

There are only 12 seats on the plane, and (I think) their 2:30 pm flight to SJO is the last one of the day. Also, they're very seldom on time, so expect the plane to be at least 10 or 15 minutes late for arrivals or departures.

IMO, don't take the chance. Just go to their website, book your seat(s) with a credit card and print out your ticket. It's very simple and painless. And by the way, if anything, you will be charged MORE by booking your seat at the airport, or at the last minute. Ask Orange about that one. He just got a taste of this over the Memorial Day weekend, after Nature Air cancelled his flights. :(

Have a great time, and again, welcome to the board.

As far as exchanging GB pounds, there's a place just north of the intersection of Avenida Central and Calle Central that exchanges Euros, GBP and who knows what else. Just walk down the pedestrian walkway till you get to Quizno's, then turn right, it's on the same block.

Also, you're in luck in one way, The conversion from pounds to Colones and vice versa is easy. 1 pound = 1000 Colones, more or less.

The big bank Scottia (I think) will do it as well. Had a Brit for a wingman my first trip and we went there to exchange his pounds. I know where it is if I am in SJ and see the building but can't tell you how to get there off the top of my head.

Room with king bed and a/c at the HDR is $80/night plus tax (16% I think) as of last month. Not sure why they don't post it on their web site. :?:

Is it worth changing uk £'s to US $ dollars or should I just change to Cr currency in the uk? I dont really want to get stuck and not be able to exchange uk £s. Do most places accept US $ dollars or is it local currency?

Change £ to $ - much easier as only banks tend to change £

Also you get better conversion from going £ to $ in UK, then to col in CR, rather than £ to col in th UK

You need to pre-book your flights. I learned this lesson twice. Last year when my girl and I tried to get on a Sansa without tickets in Tamarindo, they laughed at us. All the flights were booked for the next couple of days.

Then last week Nature Air canceled my flight so I tried Sansa but they hiked up the price on me a little. $400 is more than I pay to come to CR, so I'm not paying that to fly to the beach for 2 RT tickets on Sansa.
