Is there still a problem with $100 bills? |

Yep! Lots of fakes down there still and most won't take them. Just go with $50 or smaller bills. |

Still problems with $100 bills, serial # starting with CB. I've cashed in $100's at the HDR exchange counter with no problems. But to be safe, just bring twice as many $50's, and you shouldn't have a problem. Then again, I don't think any chica will check the serial # if you give her cien! ![]() ![]() |

My first trip, I had one chica check all the bills up to the light to make sure they were good. And they weren't even $100's, they were 20's. If she wasn't working at the Del Rey, I would've thought she was a bank teller the way she way handling them. Maybe that was her day job. ![]() |

The HDR is in many ways a big gyp joint and this also includes the exchange rate for dollars to colones Yesterday the DR was giving 505 total greed Morazon 515 bands 518 Doesnt seem like much but on 500 dollars thats a $10 difference bwtween the DR and Morazon |

HDR casino has always been know as a place not to exchange money. Was the BAC San Jose branch in multi plaza this morning. A women at the teller next to me was exchanging some US $100.00 bills. The teller accepted them but only after carefully examining each bill 5 times. Some merchants still will not accept them. In my opinion it is not worth the hassle. Bring fifties. |

It sounds a lot like Eastern Europe where $100 bill are automatically suspect and are really good only for exchanging at banks or paying your bill at a large hotel. Here in the USA bills which have been ripped, defaced with "Happy Birthday Freddie" written on them or taped together are considered useable but in most countries you cannot exchange them PERIOD! It is getting harder and harder to find decent looking currency in this country and even the girl at my bank had to go through two stacks of $50 bills to find enough good ones for my up coming CR trip (04 June). While I always take along a few $100 bill for a big ticket crisis (like a fast bribe), $50s and $20s tend to work much better in daily living, just like here at home. |

Benjamins are no problem if they're non-CB serial#, clean and untorn. |

Only at some places. Many shops have a sign that says NO $100 BILLETE ACEPTAR so why take the chance? |

Ok, point taken ID. Personally I've never had problems with hundreds although I'm not out trying to spend them in "shops" ![]() |

Last trip, in early March, I had no problem with them, but I did make sure that they were in good condition and I had no "CB" bills. I do prefer to carry the $100's. |

With the money the HDR makes from giving such a poor exchange rate they can easily swallow a bad $100 occasionally. ![]() |

I exchanged at the SL 51,000 colones for a $100. I even had some old hundreds. But Roberto at Idem would not except a hundred becasue it had a mini tear on a corner.I mean a little tear not even a 1/4 inch tear. Roberto said his bank dont like money with marks or tears. |
