Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and planning my first trip next month. I signed up as a VIP, but for some reason I'm still not able to sign into the VIP section of the forum. I have done a fair amount of research, but I was hoping to get some more advice from you guys. 1. I'm planning on visiting Blue Marlin, Zona Blue, Bar Idem, Key Largo, Sportsman, and Pirates. Am I missing anything important for a first timer? 2. I was planing on staying at the Presidente. Good idea? 3. I would like to go out fishing on a boat, I don't suppose any of you have made it out to sea? ![]() 4. How is Internet access there? Are we talking hi-speed wireless everywhere, or dial up performance from the room? And of course any other advice for a first timer traveling alone would be very helpful. Thanks in advance. |

First let me welcome you to the board greatwhiteticahunter. You say you have done a fair amount of research and then ask four questions that a simple search would have answered. I think you need to spend sometime reading past posts and then ask questions about things you either could not find or got conflicting or confusing information about. A good starting point is this info Orange complied. https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=145808 Pura Vida |

I didn't see Internet access addressed in Orange's posting.... The Hotel Presidente has free wireless internet access. |

That is why I phrased the reply this way: Quote: I think you need to spend sometime reading past posts and then ask questions about things you either could not find or got conflicting or confusing information about. A good starting point is this info Orange complied. I also said: Quote: four questions that a simple search would have answered.
The wireless internet at the Presidente and the signal strength has been the topic in many threads. |

All the answers to your questions can be found by doing searches. As far as fishing, if it is big game your looking for you'll need at least a six-pac which is going to run you some $$. Bill at the SL can book you a trip, but he needs advance notice. You can find pangas/whalers to rent by the day by cruising the marinas. They typically go for bottom dwellers, mahi-mahi, ect. I do recall seeing some telephone numbers of sortfishers posted, try a search. Welcome to the site!! |

Just returned from San Jose and Jaco last week. We fished Miss Behavin and Predator out of Los Suenos. 200# Striped Marlin landed, 2 30# Dorado (Mahi Mahi) and 4 Roosterfish. You can contact Capt. Dave from Miss Behavin. Website is www.1sportfishingcostarica.com You are near the end of the season. Good luck.......... |

Thanks for the help guys. Cateye - It must be amazing to pull in a fish that outweighs you! I hope I have as good of luck. I'll contact them right away. How far from San Jose is the boat? CRT Bound: I will do my best to keep my newbie wallet tight. Super_Tilt: Thanks for the info on the Wi-Fi. I feel better about staying there now. Irish - I did read Orange's post, and tried some searches. I was really just trying to get more opinions from people who have gone recently. Orange's post is great, but also a couple years old. Just trying to make sure I have up to date info. |

As for internet access, all of the wireless connection are high speed at the hotels you mention but at times the connection is erratic. Using the service from most internet cafes that I have been in can be akin to a dial up. dapanz1 |
