It's nice there. For a beach destination, it's much better than Jaco. It is hot, but not as humid, and there's usually a nice breeze off the water whereas Jaco is a bottleneck of humidity from which there is no escape. I like playing in the pool on a hot day. Beats the best day that I can have at work. In May we had an occasional shower and thunderstorm/lightning. It's pretty cool watching that, sitting on the metal ladder into the pool.   Right now, there should be no rain for another month or so.

Listen to MG, the sun down there is 10X as potent as anywhere else on earth, at least any place I've been to. One time, we spent the whole day in the pool and I put on the wrong sunblock (I must've switched to non-waterproof). Was I sorry at the end of that day. :x I had 2nd degree burns to my feet, they are still red, almost a year later (not kidding), arms, back, ears, etc. My whole body hurt. Put on a hat if you'll be in the sun for an extended period of time, I burned the top of my head to the point it hurt. (I think I burned off the rest of hair folicles and I was balding already  .)

Tamarindo has changed plenty over the last 2 years. Used to be a tranquilo beach with some night action.
Now, you will get high just walking along the streets at night. Hookers a plenty in the bars and the streets. Lots of drug sales on the streets.

Flamingo is best and watch out in Tamarindo the drinking water has tested positive for fecal coloform in the last year. I have a house in Jaco and it's closer to San Jose but Flamingo is much nicer, that is if you just have to leave San Jose. Jacoman
