I just made it back from my first trip to costa rica and had a blast. Loved San Jose (Del Ray), and loved Jaco (surfed at Hermosa played at monkey and beatle bar). what I am wondering is how are the other beach towns toward the north such as Tamarindo. Basically if I wanted to go to a new beach what do u guys recommend. Also is it possible to get from Hermosa to Tamarindo with decent time??

Apollo,
Tamarindo is a very popular surf town, but not so popular for mongering.

Driving from Hermosa to Tamarindo will take several hours. You could knock off a couple hours if you take the ferry across the Golfe de Nicoya, but when you add in your waiting time, it's pretty much a wash.

A flight on Sansa or Nature Air will take about 35 minutes, and cost around $75-80 each way. But I believe the closest airstrip to Jaco would be South of Jaco, in the Quepos / Manual Antonio area.

When you have time, do a search on Tamarindo, and you'll find all the info you need. Welcome to the board.

Mucho Gusto

looking on the board and only finding people going fishing in that area.... I did see some things positive about Flamingo which I guess is close to Tamarindo... If I choose to go to tamarindo but stay in San Jose for the first night what are my chances of finding a cute tica for the weekend and what should I expect to pay for company??

Flamingo is only about 20-25 minutes North of Tamarindo. Finding a girl in SJO to take to the beach for the weekend isn't that difficult, but with only one night in SJO with the chica, your chances of finding a good weekend companion goes down. Finding one is easy.... but finding a "compatible" one is not as easy.

There are many factors to consider when you ask about price. But, you can expect to pay at least $100-150 per day. Plus, you'll be paying for EVERYTHING else: Her transportation, food, drinks, souvenirs, etc.

Good luck, and have fun.
