I can answer this one because this is a similar situation that I was in. On my first trip, my buddy and I rented a crappy house in Heredia. It wasn't supposed to be a mongering trip but surf, sun, and relaxation. But I found CRT a couple of weeks before the trip, and the rest is history. We stayed in some part of Heredia called Flores, or something like that, I don't remember the exact name (sorry, it was 18 months ago), but it was 25 minutes by car with NO traffic (10% of the time), and 1 hour the first time we took a taxi to DR (5pm rush hour). Our taxi (w/ meter) was always $11-12 (5,000-5,500 ¢). It adds up. Just one RT trip was about $22-24 daily. The first trip the guy didn't use the meter and asked for $15, but I was a little upset after reading on CRT that you should always have them use a meter. I think I talked him down to $10.
(We had a rental car by the way, but the parking situation and the traffic in SJ was too much, so we used taxis mostly.)
Anyways, we had A LOT of trouble getting the hotter chicas agreeing to come back to Heredia. The less desired ones would go, usually with little problem, but even a few of them said no. Most said, "No, it's too far". Others said they never go to private houses for security reasons, hotels only. If you're staying in a hotel, it should be better, but you will still have girls who will demand a premium for time wasted in taxi.
If you can change, I'd recommend a hotel in the city. Out of the 9 nights we were there, I think we spent 5-6 in the city, in a hotel, even though we paid for the house, it was that inconvenient in Heredia. Plus with the taxi expense, it seemed more economical.
