I will be studying Spanish in Heredia. Are there any places to meet Ticas there?

We rented a house in Heredia my first trip. There's nothing going on there whatsoever from what we saw, but honestly, we didn't waste much time looking. We just drove into SJ and visited "sure-thing" places. It's probably a good idea to have a rental car if you plan on going into the city every day. We took a cab once, and the metered fare was almost $10 one way. But it depends where in Heredia you will be, I think we were pretty far out of the city. I think part of the reason the fare was high was that the cabbie sensed 2 newbies and got "lost". But then karma stepped in and and he got pulled over by the cops for an illegal turn and had to pay the guy off, so I'm pretty sure the prick lost money by driving us.

Never again will I stay there or recommend Heredia to anybody!!!

I haven't hung out in Heredia at night, so I can't say what goes on after dark. I can give a little intelligence about a couple of things, though. First, bus rides are cheap into San Jose. There are two routes that the busses take. One lets you off across from Parque La Merced. These are the 'Uruca' busses. The others, the 'Tibas' variety, end up on Calle 1, not too far from the gulch. I am not certain but I believe these busses may run all night, though certainly they run till 11.

The 'Tibas' busses end up about a block from the 'dungeon' if you are a bargain hunter. Muses is quite close, as is Zona Blue. A few more blocks and you will be right in the gulch, with the Del Rey, and all.

I would SPECULATE that there must be massage places in Heredia, considering the number of places in San Jose. Heredia is smaller but not THAT much smaller. Ask a taxi driver, they are the intelligencia about such things. When you find out, let us know, ok? Good luck.
