Overview- Costa Rice is a beautiful Country and the locals and extremely nice people. There are some very nice areas to visit and I would highly recommend Jaco and Quepos if you have the time. San Jose is a very big city similiar to some in the US. Lots of traffic, pedestrians, sidewalk sales, homeless, drugs, crime and can be very dangerous at night. Take taxis at night in San Jose.

First of all- if you are going to CR for an adult weekend subscribe to this site because the discounts are well worth the discounted costs in women, meals and hotels.

Prostitution- Its legal just make sure they are 18yoa. If you have never been to Costa Rica you have to understand prostitution down there is treated almost like regulated profession. The women are 18-35 yoa, anywhere from a 4 to a 10+ in look and most have very good attitudes which really can make or break your experience. They carry cards and Hotel Delrey monitors the women that come in so you don't have to worry about the girl being a guy or anything crazy. On the streets of San Jose there are Transvestite prostitutes so I wouldn't recommend trying to pick up women on the streets.

Hotels- -

Hotel Delrey- This hotel is the center of action at night and most newbies never really leave here day or night (lol). Their lobby/bar is known as the Blue Marlin and there are women there 24hrs a day. It looks like your typical bar in the US where there are a lot of really good looking women. The ratio is normally 4 women to every guy and at times can be as much as 10 women to every guy. As you walk around the bar every woman will flirt with you and you will feel like a rock star. It really is good for the ego.
The rooms are clean, average size, king beds a very hard, occassionally a little noisy from the music at the bar downstairs which is busy very late. You can get food at the hotel (Its Ok) 24hrs a day and there is a TV in your room to help recover and drowned out some of the noise around you (Occassionally I heard a Tica having sex but not very often.)
The women are independents and prices vary widely depending on many factors (Slow night for the women, end of shift, rent is due means lower prices.) They usually start at $100 for 1-2 hours or $200 for the night. You can negotiate down which I did a little. You can get $60 - $80 an hour and $120 to $150 an hour fairly easily. Some guys get it for less but I hate bargaining too much. Most will hang out and drink with you for awhile and they a very good company and you can learn about CR. If your not interested tell them up front and it's no problem. Just make sure you tell them soon so they can move on and make some money. I always was nice and said maybe later. Worked pretty well for me.
Bottom line- If you want to be close to the action, close to your room for sex and don't mind a hard bed and a little noise this is a good place to stay. The maids and staff at Delrey are very nice, helpful and you can book all of you excursions from there although I would advise using the discount page on this site to save money. No discount at Delrey. Ticas seem to prefer Delrey. $10.00 for every Tica you bring to your room. Small Casino in the bar. $88 a night

Presidente- I would suggest this for your first trip. Very nice hotel. Rooms are spacious and beds are good. Very quit hotel, good food down stairs, very nice staff and the Hotel Delrey is a 5 min walk away. Good breakfast in the morning. I think it was $10.00 for every Tica and only one at a time. Discount offered if you are a member on Costa Rica Ticas. I think the basic room is $55 but the junior suite was very nice but I forget the cost.

There was another hotel that looked fairly new behind the Delrey and I think it was called the Park Inn. It looked very nice and I heard some good reviews but never actually saw it. I think I will try this hotel next.

Zona Blue - Very nice hotel but read the whole review. I wouldn't suggest staying here your first night in Costa Rica. You have to be buzzed in a steal gate and it doesn't look like a very nice place. I almost didn't go in but I was glad I did. Very nice inside. Your first time in CR go for a visit. Go straight to the bar and order a drink. Ask for a tour and they will be happy to show you the place and rooms. The girls will be in the bar but will not disturb you unless you show interest. The women are $40 an hour flat rate, 2 girls $80 an hour, 3 girls $120... Includes Sex, Sauna and steam and massage. The sex rooms are about as big as a walk in closet with a very small bed but there are mirrors everywhere which was kinda cool. Girls were great. I heard the rooms were nice 2 bedroom suites and you do get a discount on the women. I wish I had taken the tour but was distacted by the hot women. About 10 min walk from Delrey and well worth it.

Food:

Del Mar - I would definitely recommend the breakfast at the Del Mar directly across the street from Hotel Delrey. Full buffet breakfast.
I heard there were great steaks at night as well.

To be honest I never really found anything I would recommend. Food was very average everywhere I went (Except Delmar) at best.

There are plenty of other activities such as white water rafting ATV ride, Volcanos... and at night there are also local bars (non-prostitutes) and Casinos to visit. Hotel staff and this sites discount page is very helpful.

Some saftey advice:
1) Use the safe in the room. (passport, extra money, watches, rings...)
2) Only take what you need and no more
3) Don't trust anyone you don't know even other Americans and Europeans. There are a lot of scam artists that live down there. Don't loan donate or help anyone. I got scammed once and I even knew better.
4) Use taxis at night
5) Travel in pairs if possible
6) Never trust the women. Have fun with them but some will steal from you. While in your room lock everything back in your safe while you have fun.

I know this is a little long but I hope this helps. If anybody has any questions I just got back on 10/02/06 so feel free and have fun.

Great post for all newbies to read. Thanks for taking the time to type it all. Glad you had a good trip. They (future trips) only get better! But the one thing you forgot to mention, is about the "post-CR-withdrawals"! :shock:

There is no chica guest fee at the Presidente.
The hotel behind the Hotel Del Rey is the Sleep Inn. Ultra nice but has a $25 chica guest fee.

Presidente definitely had a chica fee last Dec so they must have changed it.
I must have gotten lucky because my room was very quite at Presidente.

Something else I meant to add for first timers is what to bring:

You will wear shorts and t-shirts most of the time. Maybe 2 sets of clothes for going out but you don't need much. The chicas care about your money not what you are wearing so be comfortable. If you can get it all in a carry on it saves time when you get to San Jose. They will do laudry for you at most hotels.

Withdrawl symptoms hit when you get in the van and start heading for the airport (SJO). You immediately start planning your next trip, remembering the girls you missed and start to realize how much you really should have done.

Then you start thinking about home equity loans, cashing in retirement accounts or borrowing from the family so you can have a better longer trip next time. Then you entertain the thought of moving down there and the wheels continue to spin. lol
The good news is you have this big smile that lasts a couple of weeks that nobody can figure out because you're thinking about your trip.

I love Costa Rica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you are mistaken and must have read your bill incorrectly.

I first stayed at the Presidente in 1992 and there was no chica fee then. Literally hundreds of CRT members have stayed there over the years and never, never, never reported paying a chica fee.

You may look at your bill and see a large "tax" which is imposed on all hotel bills. You may have mistaken that tax as a chica fee.
