I haven't been to the Del REy yet (first trip scheduled next month) but I've seen lots of pictures of all the super hot del rey bartenders in the VIP section and on their facebook page. My question is are they available for hire too or are they just for show? There was a brief mention in one of the Newbie posts in reference to this but it wasn't very clear. And if so what is the average price? Or does it really matter since there are so many other hot women in there? Is there a hands off policy in most of the bars towards the bartenders or does it vary from place to place?

If you have to ask then I would say its to expensive. Have seen first hand guys offer close to 1000$ and them turn it down. Not to say they don't do it for less. In my experience, time is your favor in the bartender game. A familiar face, distinct spending ability. They are the ultimate bar slut, in that they desire the high roller and guy who will give them what they want, as they want, when they want. I have seen a few. I know in the past they a few have dated some "younger" North American guys who LIVED there, but Im not sure what that says about your odds.

I would say the bigger question is who, and how much are you willing to part. If your thinking anywhere near the "norm" then cut your loses and just develop your hatred toward them like the rest of us.

Agree with everything except the "hatred" part. To me, they're not important enough for that, lol.

Mostly agree with the above.

Bartenders, a constant source of fasination for many, especially newbi's, can be available - but generally, not for the $80 or $100 many guys would be willing to pay, they are not - I personally know of a situation where a guy "dated" (took her to the beach, actually) a bartender from the old New York bar- pretty girl, paid her $300 a day - and the sex sucked (OTOH, he was no Brad Pitt, if you take my point).

There is so much willing talent, at much more reasonable prices, I don't know why anyone would spend the money, time, or effort to have a bartender - but then, as my friend Miamiheller says, TEHO ("To each his own")

It is very interesting that many newbies read about Costa Rica on this board, look at pictures and do not realize that ALL women in CR are NOT for sale.
They would never dream of approaching these type of women in their home towns but are ready to believe in CR EVERY girl is for sale !!!

I have to admit I did the same a long time ago, finally got one, Delia. Remember her? Cute Nica. Older guys will remember DelRey allowed her to put up a little barber salon by the chica elevator. That was a long time ago at least 13 years ago more or less. I quit wasting my time after that affair ended, dumb idea then, even dumber now.

I am not at the DR often anymore but I haven't been impressed with the quality that the bitch is hiring these days, especially if you don't like out of proportion bolt ons---I think those are now a pre-requisite. Check out some of them on this youtube from 2012 Halloween Party.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTdvPQz8U74.

Or look at their 2012 beach calender of the group in bikinis--they all had oversized bolt ons and I thought only one had a cute mug and nice bod until she bolted up. Not that there isn't a cutey working at any given time, but nothing I've seen recently that wasn't also available on the other side of the bar for less money and alot less time chasing.

But I realize, especially after seeing the recent thread on the varied ratings of the blond Navegalo model, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One guy says she is a 10 worth a double C-note, another guy says she's a 6 and would pass on her if for more than $60.

I brought a friend along time ago on his first trip and he wifed up with Lucy---remember that petite fake blond pushing 45 years or more, with the sun wrinkled prune face, squeaky voiced cigarette/drink mooching wench that was sitting there usually day time, every day, for years? He didn't leave the DR the whole time. He had fun, thought she was a knock out. OK good for you, glad you had fun. So did somebody else--somebody actually married her and brought her home. Knowing she'd sucked 20,000 cocks already, what the heck was this gringo thinking?

Dam, thanks for the memory. Had totally forgot about her. Was tough to look at but I heard she was dynamite performer.

Since this thread is about DelRey bartenders, how about another blast from the past of that same era. You and other older guys will remember when the DelRey had a gringo male bartender, in fact for a long time, maybe since their beginning. Jay Trettien, worked day shift before there were cameras and what not and he'd buy a round like at home. He died pretty young, like 50? Used to be a picture of him on the back bar wall, don't remember seeing it anymore now that I think of it. They had his "service" across the street at the Monkey Bar.

The one and only. Was a professional bartender defined as a guy that had a great ear. Thanks for DG's website, another blast from the past. Look at his map, 12 years old? and see how many places aren't there anymore or have changed names.

And just seeing some of them listed brings back memories of others. Ah, the hot tub fun at the old Green Door. $100 and all you could drink. Howard, anyone remember him? He pissed somebody off. Still got the address in my contacts. 3350 Avenida 2.

I "remember" that chica with DG in the upper left corner, a DelRey reg, she was even better looking in person. Haven't seen her in a decade. You wonder what happens.

Since we have gotten into reminiscing about the "Old San Jose scene" I guess this mini hijack of this thread is allowed.

I saw Bill Bullock the last owner of the famous Park Hotel or perhaps infamous depending on you point of view at Papi's last week. He lost lot of weight since his days at the Park and I understand he is now living in San Jose.

Very true - I'm not going to get into the stats about how few the percentage of sex workers is relative to the overall population, or how insignificant "sex tourism" is to the overall scheme of things, but since I think that is your point, I'm going to agree with you. Is it any wonder some Costa Ricans think every gringo is a tool.......

While I hate the mis use of the term/word "tica", I can certainly see how someone might misuse it (the name of this board is a contributor) - I also hate - while not being surprised - the misconception that the country is one giant whorehouse, especially by those with little to no on the ground experience - as I've posted, while it certainly exists in a limited amount throughout the country, with the exception of the gulch or Jaco, there really is no "scene" anywhere else.

It's interesting how this topic seems to baffle people, Scuba.

My theory on this is pretty straightforward: there's a certain category of monger who wants what he thinks other guys can't get.

The reason guys go after these bartenders is because they see them as unobtainable prizes -- or rather, much more difficult to attain than the chicas who work our side of the bar.

If they succeed, they bask in the self-proclaimed glory of "I got her even though most other guys can't!". It's an ego trip.

There's a secondary factor at play - they believe these bartenders have less "mileage" than working girls and aren't as "used" by every Tom, Dick and Harry visiting the Gulch (if they only knew... :) ).

And a tertiary - some guys are bored with point-and-shoot working girls and are looking for more of a challenge.

This phenomenon can also be observed here in the States. Just go to any strip club and you'll invariably find some guys chatting up the bartenders and ignoring (mostly) the strippers.

In summary - they're going after the "difficult kill" due to the added thrill of conquest and "exclusivity".

I think you are on to something MH - I also think, in Costa Rica, with the right amount of cash, many things are possible  .

With the avalability of so much <willing> talent, I always thought it foolish to be so caught up in bartenders, although your explanation makes a lot of sense. I've given up trying to figure out the laws of attraction, but in this instance, I think you nailed it.

Very nice

The Human Nature element facet in p4p (which is way more prevelant in CR) is an often over looked aspect by the business minded monger....
