Hello All: I have a question and am hoping one of the veterans on the board can help me with. Long story short, this is the first trip that will involve mongering. I am justing coming out of an almost 20 year marriage. Bottom line, in Jaco at the BB, how does it actually work if you are interested in a particular girl? Do you just walk up and start talking to her (a tougher gig for me since my spanish vocab is only about 20 words right now), offer to buy a drink? I honestly have no idea how the actual process usually works. Can anyone walk me through a typical interaction (if there is a typical interaction?) Thanks guys! Micky D ![]() |

Yeah, just walk up and say, "hola." That will be plenty of motivation for her to continue the conversation. It's probable that one will pick YOU out of the crowd and begin talking with you. Como su nombre?=What is your name? Mi nobre es....= My name is ...... If you don't know the numbers in Spanish make sure she understands what you are telling her before taking her back to the room. ![]() dapanz1 |

Mickey D Make the I'm interested eye contact and it'll take it course. In the past I'd set a not more than price for myself, but on my next trip I'm gonna try this meet their price but max your time philosophy from the latest cien thread. |

MickyD, Here ya go! "Typical" interaction (translated)...: Newbie Gringo: Hola. (Hello). P4P Chica: Hola. (What the phuck do you want, you fat, ugly gringo?) Newbie Gringo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? (What is your name?) P4P Chica: Mi nombre es MarÃa. (Does it really matter?) Newbie Gringo: Placer de encontrarsete. (Pleasure to meet you). P4P Chica: Mucho Gusto (Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get on with it!) Newbie Gringo: ¿Te gustarÃa una bebida? (Would you like a drink?). P4P Chica: SÃ, gracias. (Only if helps me get money from you.) Newbie Gringo: ¿Qué tipo de bebida te gustarÃa? (What type of drink would you like?) P4P Chica: Toro Rojo, con hielo. (Anything, but let's make it quick.) Newbie Gringo: Mi picha es sumamente grande. ¿Eres interesado? (My schlong is extremely large. You interested?) P4P Chica: Absolutamente (Doubtful, but....whatever). Newbie Gringo: ¿Cuánto durante una hora? (How much for one hour?) P4P Chica: Gracias, mi amor. (You bet your ass! You're gonna pay! You're gonna pay DEARLY). Newbie Gringo: Soy un idiota. (I love you, I want to marry you, I can't wait to make love to you.) P4P Chica: ¡Yo también! (This is gonna be like takin' candy from a baby). Newbie Gringo: ¿Vamos? (Let's go?) P4P Chica: ¡Vamos! (I'll be back, sitting on this same barstool in 15 minutes!) Mucho Gusto, ![]() Not nice, but probably true. ![]() My version: Mickey D.: "Hi." Chica: "hi. Waht ees jour name? Were jou fron? How long jou stay? Mickey D.: "Oh, you speak English. <large sigh of relief> Chica: Si, yo hablo. I wan' a hoondrey dollares. So you can see from the above example Mickey, that you'll have no problem with your lack of Spanish. Mickey, one question. We had a guy around here for awhile, a real goofball who called himself "Mikey B." You wouldn't be related, would you? ![]() ![]() |

When the spanglish speaking chica approaches she will ask. "Es eet your first time in Costa Rica and how long are you here?" The anwer is "I have been here many times and I will be here for a month." This will help in the negociations as they look for a home run with first timers. |

Newbie Gringo: Hola. (Hello). P4P Chica: Hola. (What the phuck do you want, you fat, ugly gringo?)..... Absolutely Hilarious Mucho Gusto! Perhaps I should just print it out and use it as a script in Jaco! Must tell all of you I have only been a member for a few days and have already got my $$ worth and I haven't even used the discounts yet. Thanks for all the assistance. FYI: I've never been Micky A B or C... Just Micky D. I will be at the Del Ray Sept 1st, in Jaco the 4th and 5th and back at the Del Ray 6th-9th. I will be the fat, ugly gringo in the corner walking around with Mucho's script. ![]() |

MickyD, Like Olney suggested, make eye contact, don't be shy. Everybody is there for the same reason. When you see somebody you like, smile and say "hola" (ohla) and she'll take it from there. A couple of suggestions: -if you see somebody you like, act FAST! or you will lose her to another (my biggest rookie mistake) -don't overpay (they will start at cien ($100) for 1 hour but you should say no and bargain down to about 70+/-), if they won't budge, move on to the next one, there will be another one as soon as you take a step to your right/left -don't ever feel pressured by any chica to pick her or buy her a drink -trust your intuition, if something smells fishy (no pun intended), walk away, it's not worth it -drink in moderation -treat them well and they will do the same -read the board as much as possible, especially the newbie section |

Wow!!, Mucho gustos reply says it all and probably is exactly what went throuh the chicas minds when I talked them into going to my hotel room from the BB. I don't speak spanish either...although I am working on that I as write with pimsleur...The girls did not speak english but understood fifty dollars my room si? They tried a quick upsale but I held the line and they said Si. If they try too hard on the upsale or cop an attitude then forget them., they will give you bad service on their screwed up principle and the fact you went along with it. |
