Hey guys, thanks for all your great info. I am sure it will REALLY help me. This is my question... I am leaving next week, first timer. I speak ZERO spanish. Staying at the HDR. How tacky would it be to have some questions writen on a note card? ie, "all nighter, 2x tonight, 1x in morning, dfk" or "i am looking for a 3 some, do you have a friend that YOU like?" Please don't laugh, I know it is a lil odd, but without speaking spanish, and going solo, I don't want a mechanical bull every sesion for $60-$70. I can have my wife do that for free at home. ![]() |

Hey Feb, Welcome to the board. If you can't speak a word of Spanish, you have 2 choices: a) seek out English speaking chicas (usually hardened pros ("mechanical bull") that you'd probably want to avoid) b) write some things on a piece of paper. it may look silly but it'll work. oh and there always choice c), meet up with some CRT's (happy hour at HDR 5pm) and have one of them hook you up with somebody. Good luck. |

I dont speak any spanish, nor do I make any attempt to remember words, and I have never had any problems. If in the odd case you run into a girl that speaks spanish only, hand signals go a long way. |

Another good idea is to go to WalMart or anywhere that has them and buy a hand held translator. It can be an easy way to break the ice with a girl as well as communicate. Xman |

February, I don't speak Spanish either and have never had a problem. With the little Spanish I do know and the little English the chica knows and the sign language in between....I get by OK. Don't worry about it. Zebra |

a) seek out English speaking chicas (usually hardened pros ("mechanical bull") that you'd probably want to avoid) Another simple option is find the CRT guys at Happy hr. and get one of your new amigos to translate for you. ![]() |

PL, I don't doubt that there are probably some good chicas who speak good english, but from experience and what's been written here, many who speak english well are long-time HDR vets who have become hardened over time... |

Hi Feb. There is a great book at your local chain book store titled " Spanish in 10 minutes a day". I gave it to my buddy on his virgin trip a week before we flew to SJO. He got by without my help in most cases. Try it. The more spanish you know the more fun you will have. Enjoy your trip. |

Hi February... I have the perfect solution for you.... pay for my trip I'll be your personal guide and translator... ![]() ![]() ![]() Just kidding my friend. As my other CRT brothers stated; you can hook up with another CRT (which is the best idea of all), get one of those Spanish in 10 minutes a day, and just be yourself and you'll be fine. The chicas at the DR/BM and KL all know what you are there for and they are the ones to provide it. A language differene will not be a barrier. However,I'm sure everyone will agree with me that being able to communicate in Spanish DOES make for a better experience. ![]() Just have a great time... Respectfully |

All non Spanish speaking CRT's... There are about 7 copies (CD's) left of the Pimsleur Essential Spanish courses I II & III, all 90 lessons, available for the asking at the desk at the Sportsmens Lodge... Madhatter |

I just got back from Panama , and none of the Panamanian chicas that I met spoke English. Maybe they learned it in the D.R. ![]() Devo |

I guess they lied to me.. ![]() But really more than 1 told me they learned english in school, like it was mandatory. Maybe they meant the DelRey University. Where's that Panama Trip Report Devo? ![]() |
