Hello all,
A newbie to CR needs some help...coming next week for biz. Only staying a couple days. Any idea's where to stay in San Jose? I read about Presidente being in middle of remodel. Would like a great room and better "night life". Also, if anyone will be in the city June 5-7th, let me know. Could use some advise on where and where not to go...been to Brazil and Peru, but newbie in CR. Thanks in advance!

Brother Mulvainey:

As I was instructed on my first trip stay in the "belly of the beast" which is the Hotel Del Rey right above the Blue Marlin bar. Request a upper floor facing away from street. Since you are going to be there for work may not want to be that close and the Presidente wouldnt be bad depending on status of remodel. Also the Sportsman's lodge is an excellent choice and Bill is a great host. Other good option would be the Amon booked thru Nixon at the Paradisio Casino I think.

My best advice is read all the tips especially Ace's guides and hook up with a vet for some tips on negotiating CR style.

Lastly I found Zona Blue an addictive place to spend time!

Good luck and good Hunting!!! I will be there on the 28th so keep them warm for me!!!!!!!!

The Hotel Presidente is NOT in remodeling. They spent a few days making some changes to the News Cafe but it is open.

The hotel renovations were completed a year ago. The only problem now is getting an open reservation.

The Morazan is always a viable alternative if you're not too picky. I hear they have some nice suites but I've only been in the standard rooms. They aren't big but functional.

Sportsmen's Lodge would be a great choice. It is about 6 blocks from the Del Rey. Fine walk during the day but a taxi is best at night.

Personally I would never stay in the Del Rey. Too much "activity" going on 24X7 and a $10 fee for each girl you take to your room, not that would be so bad for me but the noise issue would be.

Mulvainey, I have a great house 10 minutes from the craziness of downtown San Jose and I am a veteran for 7 years here and know all you would need to know about restaurants and where to go around town. I've got a second bedroom with a king size bed that I would let go for $30 a night right now only because I am remodeling outside but it really wouldn't effect you at all. Later this room will be $56 per night for CRT members, so get in touch if you haven't found anything yet.
