Hi.

I am booked at but am now worried about staying at The Presidente.... you know why.

But, I rarely see many comments here on staying at the Del Rey. Why not? Is this a poor place to actually stay?

Actually Peterspace, IMHO I think it's absolutely NECESSARY to stay there for your 1st trip to SJO. That is the belly of the beast. Gound Zero! You'll inevitably be back to CR for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th trip and so on and so on, and you can check out different hotels at that time, but you'll never forget your 1st trip, and the 1st time you walk into the HDR!

If I were you, I'd cancel your reservations to the Prez, and get a room at the HDR. Don't worry about the chica fee, or the noise. Ph*ck it. You ain't gonna sleep that much anyway.

Now go and have fun!

MG

There are some important advantages to staying at the DR (sheer convenience, no walk of shame), and a monger should stay there at least once, but try to get a room as high up as possible (away from the noisy casino on the first floor), or bring your earplugs.

I have never had a problem reserving at the DR by e-mail, but they are usually booked far in advance.

In the past, whenever I stayed at the HDR, I always called them direct on their toll free numbers (1-866-255-8365) or (1-800-971-2451). I would ask specifically for Edgar V.

After you've stayed there once, your information is stored in their system. All he'd have to do, was look up my name on the computer. My personal info, address, phone # and credit card # are in their system, so reservations were always a breeze. YMMV. But I'd recommend calling direct, instead of doing it via e-mail, and waiting. I don't have patience for that!
Good luck.

Depends on the tastes of each person. I saw the rooms over the years and WOULDNT stay there for the price they were/are charging. For convenience to the pros at the Delrey, sure it is the easiest. But for value and nice rooms...again in my opinion...forget it. There are MANY places to find ladies of pleasure...and cheaper than the Delrey. YMMV

I hear "stay at HDR on your first trip" all the time but I am glad I chose to stay at Presidente instead. The service and staff at the Presidente are great. The "rail" is the best place to sit and drink while you watch the parade of chicas walking past all day long. Also great for meeting CRT members and sharing war stories. The free breakfast is also a plus for me.
I would recommend getting a studio, $42. HDR is a bit more expensive and with the money you save you can treat yourself to a MP everday.

To each their own... but it's difficult for me to recommend staying at HDR over the Presidente.

A bit more expensive?

Still think for a newbie on his first trip the HDR is the place to be. If your first days are going to be shock and awe make it happen at ground zero***

I stayed at the HDR on my 1st trip and do not regret it. It was so convenient to get a chica upstairs and I partied 24/7 (with naps in between).

I agree with all previous posters.

I don't think anyone will disagree that there are "nicer" places to stay in CR than the HDR. There are much nicer hotels to stay at, some have better prices than the HDR, and some are more expensive, some have more amenities, and some are outright flea-bags.

But, the original poster (Peterspace) is a newbie, making his 1st trip to the land of plenty. As we all know, it is with almost certainty that, after his first trip, he'll want to return to CR again.

Personally, I stayed at the HDR my first trip to SJO. Because of the overwhelming amount of non-stop chica's coming and going all the time, I stayed there again the following 2 trips. But that "feeling" eventually lost its' luster. I haven't stayed there the past few trips, but I do not have any regrets for choosing the HDR, especially for a newbie.

IMHO, staying at the HDR for your virgin voyage to CR is PRICELESS. You'll have plenty of time on future trips to check out all the other hotel choices. But...... you never forget your 1st time !!!

Buena Suerte,
MG

I agree with Tanager and Mucho Gusto that the Hotel Del Rey is a must for the first few trips. I stayed there and liked it. The best part is that when you cannot sleep you just take an elevator to view the passing scene of chicas. That is priceless and cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world as far as I know.

Of course it is better to have your new true love beside you in bed when you cannot sleep but that is another story.

My first trip to Costa Rica was back in the 90's and I stayed at the DR. An unforgetable experience. Yes, a little noisy and fast paced but you really get into it. So, take the advice of experienced mongers like Mucho Gusto, ID and Tanger and Nike and "Just Do It".

Although I did most of my mongering at the DR/BM on my first trip I would not recommend staying there. I had a friend that made the trip with me and he stayed at the DR.

To make a long story short the bottom line is I had a much bigger and nicer room at the castillo and took 4 more chicas back to the room than he did.

My total bill for 6 nights - $450

His total bill for 6 nights $873

it was no problem at all getting back and forth to the BM from castillo. short walk by day and taxi by night.

If your worried about the chica limit or dress code then switch to the castillo. did I mention for the $450 for 6 nights that I had the nicest room in the place, the suite, a really nice room can be had for $60 or less at the castillo.

I guess its up to you and your own personal preference, but you can have an ass load of fun in SJ for the $423 I saved by NOT staying at the DR!

I say stick with your reservations with the pres over switching to the DR, just my 2 colones worth.

Kamala,

I have stayed all over SJO. Prez, SL, Morazon, Balmoral, Gran, Europa, even out to the Coribici (Sabana) and Marriot.

I'll never forget my stay at the HDR. It wasn't on my first trip but, I damn sure remember those nights.

6 nights $873 works to $145 a night. He must have put some meals on the room or was doing 8 chicas a day. Good for him. I just booked for 65 a night. Plus tax and 3 chica fees, comes to around 110 a night ???

Point being, the Poster posted as a newbie. For all we know, this could be his first Monger trip. No experience at all. With muggings in the street, taxi ripoffs, Trannies and such, he'll have a great safe time in the Belly of the Beast.

IMHO.

hotluck,

he didn't charge ANY meals or drinks to the room, he only took a total of 9 chicas back.

He payed $110 per night plus tax then add the chica fees, I saw the detailed receipt.

I was only offering up another alternative and reporting on my experience, I was as green as could be as this was my first trip, this site helped me tremendously with making sure I was safe and stayed away from trouble areas.

I can't imagine there being a bad choice as long as the place is chica friendly for a first trip. He will be in such awe of the scene nothing else will matter, I know I was

But that $400 plus I saved on the room by staying at castillo sure payed for a shit load of extra fun

Kamala is correct in that his friend spent a lot more money than he needed to. I never stayed at the Del Rey but never had an interest.. I enjoy grabbing a girl and getting a cab- It makes the experience, an experience. I suppose if you're partying balls to the wall, who cares though. It is nice to be able to get away from that scene imho. Are you staying more than 3 nights?
