The places you mentioned: Blue Marlin, Key Largo and Zona Blue have drink prices higher than elsewhere. My memory is bad, especially after all those drinks, but I believe that beers go for about $2.50 - $3.00, cocktails for slightly more, perhaps $4.00. (U.S. dollars)

It is possible to drink much more cheaply in San Jose. Local bars often have tap beers for U.S. .90 - $1.00 or so. A $2.00 rum and coke is easy to find.

Happy sipping.

Markrli,

From your last couple of posts I get the feeling you are on a budget…Not a problem!

A couple of suggestions… Pick up a bottle of your favorite booze at duty free when you land, so you can put a bit of a buzz on in your room before hitting the bars… Try to drink less or drink bottle water at the bars, you keep a level head, and chica’s seem to think more of someone who isn’t a drunk…better bargaining power.

Best advice… do a search of RBC100’s trip reports and posts, the guy spends so much time in CR that most of us are jealous, and he has a great eye and zeal for the most economical way to do things with a keen eye for quality!

Good luck!

Mendo

Here are some good places to start just perfect for last minute cramming.

I have also been known to pick uo a botle or two at Duty Free on my way in and have a flask handy to fill up my cokes and waters.

Markrli, if you visit the SL (sportsman lodge) and show your CRT card you'll get a 10% disocunt off your booze at the great bar. Just another reason to visit. :D

rum and coke at the BM is 1350 colones. Crown is like 3500 colones. and if you like tequila, specify the brand!! They will give you Patron. 5500 colones. Moet is like 150 USD and Dom is $300 usd. (per bottle) Its really on par with american club prices though If I could charge $11 USD for patron....I would. Here it is 8-9 usd a shot. Oddly, I have seen bud or bud light in a can there. never ask how much. I dont do the beer thing. Coronas about $4 or so. When in that area, imagine being at a night club in the states. Its the price your going to pay.
