im a professional graphic designer, I work with computers and graphics so I notice things like poor design. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but I think that certain elements of this site have been "underdesigned", specifically the lumps map. I'm interested in re-designing the map, into a very easy-to-read format, in exchange for a year's worth of CRT membership.

I'm quite serious, and If an admin is interested I would be happy to provide a url with a sample of a map that I made, I'm very good at what I do.

Please let me know if you guys need any of the services that I can provide, I would be happy to do work for this community, as long as I can be compensated with a membership.

The graphic design business must be in a slump...
I say we take bids, Handy's unemployed- he'll probably do it for 20 bucks!

Spec,

If you can't spring $39 for a membership, why would you want to spend $$$ on airfare/hotel/cheap poosie in CR?

We're all cheap bastards but not tacky.

I must say that the " getrhythm" map of SJ was more than adequate helping a first timer navigate my way around the city. I didn't have any problems at all finding all the much talked about locations.

With that being said , give spec a break, he is a newbie and probably is only trying to help as I'm sure the services that he is offering FAR exceeds the $39 membership.

As TP pointed out this should have gone directly to Admin 1 , but spec probably wasn't aware that he was going to come under attack for offering a more than fair " barter" at least in his eyes.

Give the guy a chance to at least show us a demo of what he can provide, it is possible that someone other than a CRT veteran just may have a better idea or way of doing something than the rest of us.

Admin 1 and he alone should decide if this is something that would be considered. Ofcourse this is just my opinion and at least I will get the flames from this post from here on instaed of spec, but I can take them

The map I had on my last tip was great. It not the map that’s the problem, it’s the info on it. Place’s open and closes so fast. I think Prolijo’s did a good job on his map. The only place I could not find was bar Camelot. There were two bars right next to each other in that area but the names on them were not Camelot. Has anyone gone there lately?

If you think you can do a better go ahead. But the info on the map is more important then the graphics.

Before anyone flames Spec to badly perhaps they should read this post:

Thanks everyone for your responses - as you can see by the avatar under my handle, Admin1 has been gracious enough to extend a renewal. I'll be submitting the map shortly, and it should be available in the VIP photo section soon.

Best,
GR

Bartering is an old ancient method of paying for certain services. The decision on what CRT wants to barter for is the sole province of the Admin.

Chi,

Bar Camelot is not the easiest place to find. It is located on the 2nd floor of a building. From what I recall, there is no sign hanging out in the street. It's like you have to be across the street looking directly at the place to see their sign [neon, I believe] above the door, which actually, is inside a sort of vestibule. On my first attempt to find the place, my friend and I asked two beat cops if they knew where it was, they thought about it and thought about it, and I honestly don't think they knew.

Personally, I wasn't impressed with the place, though others swear by it. YMMV.

Spec is not a newbie. He first signed on to CRT 1 year ago and has contributed what?

If he had become a VIP or even was a regular visitor to CRT he would have known we have a much better resource than the old, outdated Lump's map.

I also think his post should have been a PM to Admin 1.

I believe he's already gotten more from CRT than his offer is worth.

Good point wit!!

I didn't pay attention to the date he joined , only the number of post.

That changes things in my mind, didn't realize he has been around a whole year and he actually sees how much work went into the getrythm & prolijo maps.

My bad !!

ChiTownGino, Camelot is on the northside ofAve. 4. It is easy to walk right by it and miss if if you are walking on North side of Ave. 4. It is correctly located on map. It is best to walk on South side of Ave 4 and you will have a better chance of spottng it. There is a neon sign inside to recessed entrance that you can't see very easily.rbc100

Spec,
Two words for you............ TEAM PLAYER !!!

You've been a member of this site for over a year now. The annual membership cost is a measly $39. IMHO, it looks like you are not willing to give something unless you receive something in return.

If nothing else, you should've learned (since you've joined) that the members here are always willing to give, in the interest of helping the rest of the group.

In the past, many guys have always bought drinks for other members, because that member might have posted some helpful info.
I'm sure you're aware of the GECLICR Fund. Members stepped up and donated over $2,000 to El Ciego, so he could return to CR.
I (personally) have kicked in $150 into the pot for the 1st and 2nd place winners in each of the past 3 poker tournaments.

There are numerous things here that I could post, regarding the generosity of the members here, but I'm not going to waste my time.
We (as a brotherhood) always watch each others' backs. And we do this without expecting compensation for our actions!

But, here I go again...........................

Spec,
If the $39 membership fee is the only thing keeping you from sharing your map with the rest of the membership, then go ahead and print the map, and I'LL PAY FOR YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR A YEAR. I'm sure it's a good map, and many of the members will probably benefit from it.
But, keep in mind, I'm not doing this for your benefit. I'm only offering to do this, because I believe your map may benefit the rest of the members.

Print the map, and send me a PM with your info. Once everyone has access to the map, I'll forward your membership fee to Admin1.
Sleep tight. :?

Mucho Gusto

Stop here for a minute and think...

How do we know that Spec has been in San Jose enough times to know excatly where each and every place is located?

How can we know if Spec is using/copying the data from Prolijo's map; in which case it could be labeled as an act of pagliarism?

The maps Prolijo and Admin1 have provided are adequate enough and were created out of generosity and because the authors enjoyed helping the CRT brotherhood.

I say, IMHO, ignore Specs obvious attempt at extortion.
If this simple "desgraciado" works as a softare/graphic designer and can't afford $39.00, either his alimony is huge or he should find a better line of work.

Respectfully
Muffdiver
