I'm an experienced Thai monger, but looking forward to a change of pace. I've been doing tons of reading here, and have gotten most of my questions answered. I'm not a MP type of person. I tend to like the hunt, and bringing girls back to hotel. Any tips would be appreciated.

Happy hunting ground in San Jose is basically the Blue Marlin bar (BM) at the Del Rey hotel (HDR) and the Key Largo (KL) across the parking lot from the HDR.

There are some other spots like the NY bar and the Sportsman Lodge (SL) but they are minor league compared to the big show at the BM.

Thanks for the input. Also for explaining (BM). I kept trying to figure out what it was.

Irish Drifter laid it out pretty well. For a first-timer, the Blue Marlin and Key Largo are prime hunting grounds.

Also worth mentioning are:

El Pueblo - a shopping and entertainment complex north of the arroyo and the Holiday Inn. Pros and semi-pros often work the clubs here.

Bar Monaco - Less expensive (usually) than either the BM/KL. This is a locals' place in a dicey neighborhood.

There are a lot of places which are neither MP's in the strict sense, nor bars. Bar Idem falls into this category. It's kind of like hunting on a game preserve; the ladies are there, the price is fixed, but you can at least have a drink and chat up a number of girls. In this regard, Zona Blue with its cigar bar is similar.

Nightclubs (strip clubs) offer another level. Prices for the ladies may be fixed (Kamur, Arkada, le Grillon, Pantera Rosa), but you can usually get a chica's phone number for later action outside the club, often at a better rate.

I've been told ("word on the streets") that the Monkey Bar directly across avenida 1 from the Blue Marlin also can be a worthwhile hunting ground, as can Bar Camelot and Bar Bachata (both locals' i.e. "tico" places).

Hope this helps.
