One major mistake I made in my first trips to SJ was that I thought that Sunday would be safer than other days. There were not so many people around and that seemed good. Later I discovered that this was a big mistake and that the crowds were protection from serious crimes. Crowds help pickpockets, but help deter things like armed robbery.

Please post other similar misconceptions that newbies are likely to have.

Sorry to hear about you problem. Never had any problems personally but I am always on guard. I never travel around with more money than what I'm planning to spend in the next few hours. If I carry a Credit Card I make sure I have the account number and 800 number back in the room to call to cancel if it gets lifted.

My rookie mistake was not collecting phone numbers. I didn't think I would ever see or want to see any of these gals again. I should have paid more attention to names and collected numbers. Get the name and numbers of good taxi drivers also.

If I had my Feb. trip to do over I would have got out of the gulch sooner. I spent 8 Days there and then went to Jaco. I would suggest getting to see other parts of CR. 8 days in the gulch is sensory overload. Vary your trip. CR offers other things (what the helll am I saying) to do and see. Take a Chica with you if you want or take your chances finding one.

No harm in getting a phone number but realistically the chance of it being her number in 6 months is slim to none. These girls run up insane cell phone bills and do not pay instead they, still do not know how, simply get a new number and do the same thing.

Great topic, Vee Lee!

I made two big blunders, the first practical, the second metaphysical.

My first big mistake on my first trip was overpacking. I was scheduled to be in Costa Rica only 8 days; the trip ended up much longer because of flight delays caused by hurricane Ivan. Even so, I packed enough clothes, toiletries, first aid supplies, barriers, booze and widgets to supply me for a month in the African savannahs. I have not made the same mistake since; if I can't pack for a two-week trip in one suitcase and one carry-on, I've packed too much.

The second mistake is harder to define, but it goes something like this: I could never seem to live "in the moment." I should have tuned in, "be here now, here now be, now be here." But I didn't.
Everything, even sex was so overwhelmingly new, that I felt like I was in a play or movie. Everything seemed so unreal to me, even as it was happening. I blame sensory overload and the newness of the experience, but I know now that if I had relaxed a little, everything would have become more real than surreal.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

If there has to be a third blunder to make this post complete, it would have to be my relative lack of Spanish. I thought I spoke Spanish a hell of a lot better than I do. These days, I'm more likely to play dumb about my knowledge of Spanish than I am to voluntarily speak it. I don't know which is the better plan.

If the solution to all blunders could be summed up in one word for me, the word of advice would be "Relax!"

Rookie blunder from my first trip:

Gorgeous chica = hot sexo.

More often than not, gorgeous chica equals higher cost of p4p. She knows it, she has all the guys drooling over her. She will in fact play up the sexuality with the eyes, the wink and the smile at the bar. She will entice you to relieve yourself of $100 for a one hour romp. (However, I well remember the trophy phuck from my virgin trip, I only paid $80  Andrea, a Colombiana with bolt-ons, straight blond hair, long legs... mmm )

Word to the nookie rookie: Stick with the chica who feels the chemistry.

Right Hand Man,
Do you have any other info on this Andrea chica from Colombia? She sounds like my first experience too.

There are a lot of Andrea clones in the BM, take your pick, they are represent the same thing.

Zefross,

This is my flashback (glad I wrote this is in the trip report), RHM said
Quote:
It’s past midnight in the garden of good and evil and my plane leaves at 6:30 am next morning, taxi at 4am. Recalling the advice of wise Circus, no sleep for me. I cruise the BM and una tica latches onto my arm. I tell her I can’t pick her yet because I am in the candy store. She’s a 7, but a 9 if she had better teeth. Most likely won’t have time to makes 2 trips back forth to the candy shop, so I make up my mind to find hottest girl not traveling in a pack. Colombiana name Andrea, standing on the steps near the ladies room. Nice silicone rack, big wet lips to die for, straight blonde hair, tall and flaca. I know the reputation, but WTF let’s go out with a bang. Take her back and make her work for her money. Thirty minutes into it she is trying like hell to make me pop. But I am etching the beauty of this creature, and what I see in the full length mirror, in my mind. Mish, doggy, sideways one leg in air, back to mish… (she’s pissed this is taking so long… see definition of Colombiana) I am fighting the urge to explode, I try to slow down a bit and switch positions. She grabs my ass, say NO!, wraps those gorgeous legs around me and ph#@cks me until I blow my load. WHEW! Pura Vida. Just enough energy left to shower, pack my bags and catch a 1 hour nap. Guess how fast taxis drive on empty 4 am roads? Was thinking if I die, I’m already in heaven

Don't know much more than that about her. My spanish was terrible on my first trip.

Ahhh, the memories....
