We should be getting in at 11 pm on Thurs. Where would be the best place for us to go that first night since it'll be so late?

Not that late really, Mp's will be closed but KL, DR and the various strip clubs discussed here should be jumping at that time.

Welcome to the board, and as others will tell you you might seriously consider joining as a VIP, great information and yes, the membership pays for itself the first trip with all the discounts.

Maboman is correct. Keep in mind that many strip clubs are open until dawn. The Blue Marlin is a 244/7 freak show, the KL is open like, until 3:00 a.m.

For food, Chelle's Soda near the Presidente and Nuestra Tierra over on avenida segundaare both open.

ARRRGGGHHHH! My trip just got postponed. Looks like I'll have to wait an additional month or two to get down there. I appreciate everyone's help on getting "edjumacated" on SJ and CR.

I guess it will just give me time to find out more about it.

If you can hold out a little longer, May 25-29 will be a fun weekend. Something to consider.

Actually Fallon, you will also find CRT'ers by the dozens in San Jose near the Fourth of July and over Labor Day weekend.

However, any time is the right time to visit San Jose. May-December is considered the rainy season, but it's not that bad. Costa Rican summer is late December through the end of April; mighty fine weather, somewhat higher prices, more butt-hole Gringo Tourists who believe that Wal*mart is the Sacred Altar, who don't speak Spanish and who make disapproving noises at prostitution. :lol: Okay, they're not that bad. There are however more of them. Phookers. :lol:

What is the significance of that May weekend? I am not to concerned about the rain, since I have been to Thailand a bunch of times during Monsoon season (that's some serious water). I don't mind so much of the gringos who dislike what we do either. It's all in fun and nobody's getting hurt, like in Eastern Europe and such. I am sure there are cases, but I would be going just to blow off some steam (and other liquids) :mrgreen: and not get in anyone's way. I don't speak Spanish either, but my friend's family is from Columbia, which is why we were going. He is fluent and has never been to Central America and wanted to check it out.

I am really pissed that I can't make it down, but I can't be mad since my friend just lost a family member and he needs to attend the funeral.

Luckily there will always be other weekends and it will give me a chance to lurk some more and get more familiar with everything in SJ.

Plus, I'll be able to join the board as a paying member and actually get to take advanatage of everything.

First of all, it's a 4-day holiday weekend here in the U.S. (Memorial Day) but more importantly, there'll be a shitload of CRT Goodfellaz in SJO that weekend, and there'll be all types of un-speakable debauchery going on.

IMHO, the best way to pop your CRT and SJO cherry is to be in town when a lot of other CRT'ers are in town. That'll be worth the membership itself! You'll go to places and see things that you probably wouldn't see on your own. You'll probably return to the states battered, bruised, broke and drained of all leche', but what a ride !!!!

Just DO IT !!! :twisted:

CR is pretty far south. Does it get hit by hurricanes? It is good to avoid places subject to them during hurricane season.

Yes, C.R. does get hit by some hurricanes on both coasts. last year, Hurricane Stan destroyed the road between Quepos and Dominical, a village was destroyed and there was a lot of beach erosion.

However, San Jose is in a mountain valley, 3780 feet above sea level. Weather there, even during the rainy season is pretty pleasant.

You're only problem hurricane wise is that you might get stranded for a few days in San Jose until it's again safe to fly over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Wouldn't that be a cryin' shame? :D

If you're going to worry about natural disasters, keep in mind that Costa Rica has three active volcanoes and has experienced a range of earthquakes.

Have to respectfully disagree with that. Costa Rica rarely, if ever, get a direct hit from a hurricane. Nicaragua is about as far south as hurricanes come in Central America. Hurricane Stan did not hit Costa Rica. The low pressure area associated with it dumped large amounts of precipitation on the Pacific coast side which led to erosion and flooding which caused major damage to roads and villages. There was water damage not wind damage of which in a hurricane both are prevalent.
