The "new" map is not so new any more. I believe it was updated last spring and the Sportsman's was just getting started around then. I've thought that we've needed a new map that is dynamically updatable and have been working a "new improved version".

Some of you may have been wondering why Prolijo hasn't been posting so much lately. Others are just quietly grateful I haven't :P . Here is what I've been up to. The new "Prolijo's Whorticultural Map of San Jose" is almost complete. Among other things, it features:

1) 4 levels of detail - zoomable at the click of a mouse.

2) Color-coded map icons - numbered with a legend on the top-level map and labeled on the detailed maps

3) All icons have description labels when you run your mouse over them

4) You can click any icon for a pop-image of the site in question along with name, category, location/address, hours, rates, phone and comments (all as available or applicable)

5) Also on the pop-ups, if there are websites and CRT reviews (including CRT Gourmet for restaurants) they are hotlinked so you can click directly to them for more detailed info on each particular place.

6) Most of the maps are printable on standard legal size paper and designed to be foldable map-style into a handy pocket-sized version you can carry with you. (sorry - I haven't figured out how to get the picture pop-ups to work on the paper version )

Check out the sample version yourself at http://www.geocities.com/crmonger/samplemap.html. We're in the process of securing a better location for the full-fledged version which will be available only to CRT VIP members (yet another great reason to join)

This has been a huge project and is largely complete, but I'd like all your help to make this truly a CRT project. Here is what you can do:

1) If you can think of any places that should be added (or removed) let me know. There is plenty of room for more, particularly on the more detailed level maps.

2) We will need better pics of all the places, preferably 300px wide by 200px high.

3) More accurate info as to location, hours, rates and phone.

4) Comments (preferably 256 characters or less) or full-fledged reviews in the CRT forum for each place

5) Notify me of any bad or misplaced links

6) A couple of places in particular that are usually referred to in terms of taxi directions from landmarks unknown to me are D'Pelufos and Rest. Foganacito. If anyone knows the exact location of these or similarly described places, please provide me with the exact cross streets or map coordinates.

Any entry that is used will be signified with a place, photo or review "courtesy of ..." on the pop-up and of course any help will be greatly apreciated by all.

Here is a partial list of places that I still need photos for:
Blue Marlin Bar..........................Club 40
Jet Set......................................Farol Rojo
Casablanca NC...........................Kamur NC
D'Pelufo's NC.............................Bar Camelot
Hotel Asia..................................Holiday Inn - Aurola
Morazan Hotel & Tropical Casino..Balmoral Hotel
Best Western SJ.........................Gran Hotel
Gold Museum.............................Jade Museum
El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte....Rest. La Criollita
Do Sushi Rest............................El Fogoncito
La Piazetta................................La Masia de Triquell
Pizzeria Il Pomodoro..................Rest. El Chicote
JR's Ribs...................................Mall San Pedro

First look was good.
2nd look I got this:

"Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable! The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer. Visit our help area for more information."

That could be a problem.

Other than that what you have so far looks great.

I've replaced the original page with a redirect to a 2nd pop-up window. If you wait a few seconds and then check your taskbar you should be able to activate the new window. Keep in mind that the sample map was never intended for permanent use but rather to give everyone an idea of what was coming (and is mostly ready). I have added enhanced security and copy protection and disabled other features including printing on the sample version.

If you would like to be able to access the final product you basically have 3 options: 1) if you are a VIP member, speak to the Admins about adding a dedicated section for it; 2) if you haven't joined CRT as a VIP member, sign up today and follow option 1; or 3) donate your own web hosting space for this project.

Of course, your votes for post of the month wouldn't hurt as additional motivation for me to complete this project.

Hello Gentlemen,

Is it possible that the Sportsmens Lodge web site link....

www.sportsmenscr.com

and the map site which you can see located on our web site...(we are located just east of The Hemmingway)...could be added to this index & map?.

If this possible the additions would be helpful to many members who have looked for this on this valuable and helpful link and not found them.

Best Regards,

True Sportsman

That has already been covered on the full version of the map. Here is the direct link to your pop-up http://www.geocities.com/crmonger/Images/Sportsmens.html. Would any member who has stayed there like to contribute a full review with details on room quality, extra services, pros and cons etc.?

Posted: Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:56 am Post subject: FIVE ROLEX REVIEW of The Sportsmen's Lodge.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Review of the Sportsmen's Lodge
By Texas Rolex

Okay... let's get something out of the way: This ain't no five star hotel.

There's no hair dryer in the room. No iron for your clothes. Not even a complimentary box of Kleenex. But regardless... The Sporstmen's Lodge is the place you're gonna want to stay at.

"Yeah, Rolex... but why?" you ask. After dishing such dirt... why would I recommend this place? Please read on...

Once you stop looking at this place as a hotel and START looking at it as more of a bed and breakfast/lodge... you'll realize that this place is FANTASTIC.

Here's what's important: A friendly, intelligent staff. An owner that personally greets you. A great atmosphere. A warm "bar" environment. A general sense that everyone is welcome.

And the Sportsmen's Lodge has all of this. (By the way... you'll never find this type of atmosphere in a traditional hotel setting).

Ray, their French-Canadian daytime general manager, was excellent and several times went out of his way to make sure that things I needed (a taxi, a shuttle bus, hotel reservations for a beach trip) were not only taken care of, but followed up and confirmed.

Wanda, the evening manager, is a doll and a sweetheart... just the kind of girl you could marry. Or at least have babysit your K*ds.

Margie and Heidi-- who run the bar during the day-- are warm and friendly. Kind of like the ex-girlfriend you're still chummy with and can hang out and enjoy a drink with.

Sharon, the nighttime bar tender, is a blast. One night she taught me how to Merengue.

Bill, the owner, is a Prince of a guy with a stunning girlfriend that could send J. Lo back to the block. His vision for the Sportsmen's Lodge and general easy-going, laid back temperament sets the tone for the general ambiance of the place-- which makes it perfect for a relaxing get-away from the States.

While it may not be a "five star" hotel, the Sportsmen's Lodge definitely gets a "five Rolex" rating in regard to general experience and an over-all damn good time! And for aproximately $50 a night... you just can't go wrong with the Sportsmen's Lodge.

All the best,
Texas Rolex.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A REVIEW OF SPORTSMENS LODGE
BY: CHICAGOGUY

WOW......HOW CAN I SAY ENOUGH GOOD THING ABOUT SPORTSMENS LODGE.

ARRIVED OF JANUARY 6TH AT 6pm WAS MET UPON ARRIVAL BY THE OWNER BILL ALEXANDER, WHO I HAD SPOKEN TO BY TELEPHONE PRIOR TO MY ARRIVAL...WHAT A GREAT GUY AND HOST, ANYTHING I NEEDED WAS ADDRESSED AND TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY.

I WILL SAY THAT THIS WILL BE THE ONE AND ONLY PLACE I WILL STAYING ON MY FUTURE TRIPS TO OUR ADULT PLAYGROUND.

THE STAFF AT SPORTSMENS ARE ALL VERY COURTEOUS, FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL WHO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ENSURE YOUR STAY IS A PLEASANT ONE. iN ADDITION TO BILL AND HIS GIRLFRIEND KARRINA, THEIR DAY TIME GENERAL MANAGER RAY A TEN YEAR RESIDENT OF COSTA RICA WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL DURING OUR ENTIRE STAY.....LET ME GIVE YOU A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES OF GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND.....

1) ON MY 1ST NIGHT IN COSTA RICA, I WAS PICKPOCKETED (MY STUPIDITY)....I LOST $500 IN CASH AND MY CREDIT CARDS, UPON HEARING THIS BILL AND RAY BOTH OFFERED TO TAKE ME TO THE POLICIA STATION TO FILE A REPORT, WHICH RAY DID, TRANSLATING EVERYTHING FOR ME AS MY ESPANOL NEED SOME WORK.

2) UPON CHECKING OUT, I OBVOUSLY HAD A PROBLEM, NOT HAVING A CREDIT CARD, AFTER SPEAKING WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY, RAY COMPLETELY HANDLED THE TRANSACTION BY TELEPHONE FOR ME.

THE BARTENDERS HEIDI, MARGIE, SHARON AND CAROL TREATED ME AS I WAS PART OF THE FAMILY IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY ENSURING MY EXPERIENCE WAS A PLEASANT ONE.

WANDA THE EVENING MANAGER, WHAT A SWEETIE..THE KIND OF LADY YOU WANT TO JUST PACK UP AND TAKE HOME WITH YOU.....

ONLY ONE NEGATIVE I CAN THINK OF REGARDING THIS PLACE, IT IS GOING TO BE TOUGH TO GET A FUTURE RESERVATION HERE WITHOUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS NOTICE. RECOMMEND YOU GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME PRIOR TO YOUR TRIP IF YOU WANT TO STAY THERE...IF YOU WANT TO SPOIL YOURSELF AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF LADIES, BE SURE TO STAY IN THE SUITE DE PRESEDENCIAL FOR A FEW DAYS AS I DID, BEAUTIFUL ACCOMODATIONS......

SIDE NOTE:::
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A FISHING TRIP, BE SURE TO HAVE BILL HOOK YOU UP WITH MAURICIO (PROVATE DRIVER)...GREAT GUY

SPORTSMENS LODGE REALLY REMINDED ME OF A BED AND BREAKFAST IN A SMALL TOWN, FAR ENOUGH FROM THE GULCH TO HAVE THE SMALL TOWN FEEL, BUT A CLOSE ENOUGH WALK (5 BLOCKS) OR A 500 COLONE CAB RIDE TO FIND WHAT YOU WANT AT DEL REY, BLUE MARLIN, AND KEY LARGO. ALSO, 4 BLOCK WALK FROM ZONA BLUE AND 3 BLOCKS FROM NEW FANTASY...

IN CONCLUSION, ALTHOUGH I LOST A WALLET, ALL OF MY CREDIT CARDS, AND $500 IN CASH, THIS DID NOT DETER ME IN ANY WAY FROM HAVING A GREAT TIME ON MY 1ST OF MANY TRPS TO CR.

THANKS TO BILL AND HIS GIRLFRIEND KATTRINA FOR THEIR HOSPITALITY AND A GREAT LAST NIGHT AT TANGO INDIA (THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE VIP TREATMENT)

THANKS TO ALL OF THE NEW FRIENDS I MET, SLUTHOG, TEXAS ROLEX, TMAN, BLAISE (HOPE I SPELLED RIGHT), LVSTEVE, PITTSBURGH BOYS, TRUE SPORTSMEN AND ALL OF THE OTHER GUYS I MET FOR MAKING ME FEEL SO WELCOME.....

TMAN, THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP ON THE FLOR DE CANA.....AWESOME....

HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU AGAIN ON MY NEXT TRIP TO PARADISE......
