I'm as respectful of the chicas as any gringo out there, I have defended them on this board countless times in the past, but I'm not a doormat. I'm no longer going to allow them to treat me like some green newbie just off the boat. And my complaints about them (there aren't many) as probably the same things as most others have about them.

My favorites were on time in the early years of the relationships. I always expressed how I liked that. As time has gone by they have gotten worse and worse about being late. Disrespect pure and simple. I will not wait anymore.

Me getting a phone was the real beginning of being late. If u have a phone they can text and keep saying they are trying to get there. They use the phone to their Advantage. When I didn't have one they knew I wouldn't be waiting.

If you want punctuality, don't date Latinas. You will be better off with German, Austrian and Swiss girls. Have a couple of adult beverages, and while you are waiting another chica may show up. There is always "next!"

For me its simple.
1. Tell them my time expectations
2. Have them repeat my time expectations so there is no confusion
3. Enjoy the session

If they don't show when expected I don't stress, or get pissed off, I just see what happens and if I end up with someone else, they get the point. No excuses or apology needed. For me it only happened a couple of times and there was no drama about it.

Tico culture is not a clock-watching culture, and I give some allowance for that. I think that we all should. It's nothing personal. Ticos are simply not an on-the-spot people. If a guy shows up for a 4:00 appointment at 4:20 and you get upset about it, all of the Ticos will be looking at you like "What's your problem? It's only 4:20. Chill Out!"

However, it does start to get personal when someone is working on your time, and they are a repeat offender, despite clear warnings in the past. I have found that one of the best ways to deal with this is to arrange a meeting off-site. In other words, for example, don't tell a girl that you'll meet her at the Del Rey at 4:00, tell her that you'll meet her at the TGI Friday's in San Pedro at 4:00. Then, when she shows up at 4:45 and you're not there, she's stuck. She just paid 5000 colones for a taxi, and she is off-site. It's going to cost her another 2000 or 3000 colones to get to the Del Rey.

When she calls you, tell her that you were at the TGI Friday's from 3:45 until 4:20, and then you bolted. I've had girls come up to me in the Del Rey and say, "Tania said that you were a bad guy. You didn't meet her, and she spent a lot of money on a taxi to meet you." I answer, "Would you like to hear my side of the story?" When she says "yes", I tell her exactly what I just said above. After 2 or 3 times, the situation worked itself out. I don't go into the Del Rey too much these days, but when I do, the girls recognize me and they know the situation. If I tell a girl in the Del Rey to meet me someplace at 4:00, and she agrees, she's waiting for me at 3:50.

A friend just emailed me and said, "There is no TGI Friday's in San Pedro!" I answered, "Are you sure? Because I'm sure I went there... oh... yeah... that's in San Rafael de Escazú, right?"

Reading through this thread, I see a lot of stuff about respect and reputation, and I appreciate that.

I tell my girlfriend all the time, "Respect is everything."

I have developed a reputation with the girls at the Del Rey and the Sportsmens, myself. Despite what the girls may say, I like to think that my reputation is that "Scrod don't take shit off nobody." And that's kind of how I live my life these days. I tell those girls, "You treat me with respect... I treat you with respect." If you don't respect me, then I'll treat you like shit, and I'll make no apologies for it."

There are a lot of girls in downtown San José that talk shit about me, but I can walk into any bar in San José with my head held high. I have given all of those girls the opportunity to treat me with respect, but if they squandered that opportunity... then, Phuck THEM!
