I would bet that a few of the trannies in the park would let you spend a few nights with them for free.

just wanted to bust your stones a little bit, appreciate all the time and effort put into your project. Between this and the updated map you have made some important contributions lately.

Currently, the $45 Scores room rate is the best deal in town.

DECISION MADE!

La Castillo ... room 8 (a corner room that I coveted when I first saw it) for $48 a night (all in - $528).

I will report my opinion of the stay after my trip.

I held back suggesting Castillo only because of the restaurant being closed now. For several years.
Castillo was the first hotel I stayed at on my first trip to CR in 2009, and I've stayed there many times since.
My favorite rooms are 23, 10, 11, & then 12, in that order. I've met some great guys there and had a lot of fun. Enjoy sir!

I'm going to check out each one of those on your advice. If I like one better (and it's available) then I'll move over. Thanks.

Not least the charms of the Castillo are the longer-term residents and such as a gray-market iPhone peddler you might meet. The very definition of "funky charm". Shame about the restaurant being closed, though.

Just an update about getting internet from the cell phone network.

Others have told me that all the companies are extremely slow in the downtown area.

Got movie star for a week for 2500 c. Supposed to be 2mb. It is slower than dial up. Makes you think it is 1998 all over again. In the downtown area there are too many users for the network. Its saturated.

Of course movie star makes all the Ticos excuses , they know what the problem is.

According to my friends very early in the morning or late at night the speed is better but never what you pay for.

Not recommended.

I have an Android (quad-band) that I use, and it configures for tether or hotspot easily with the CLARO card I had. Speed was good enough to play games ... and that's saying something.

There is a huge sign advertising 4G Lite service from ICE/Kolbi on the corner across from La Sabana park now. Haven't got any info but good to see 4G making it's debut here.
