Excellent Post from Brother BrentC--read ALL the commentary. What I got from it is to have a computer with only the most harmless stuff on it (programs and very little data) then at the arrival site, download the stuff you want (tunes, pix, etc.) from encrypted emails or carry it on flash memory sticks, then when you leave to come back, "scub" your hard drive of all this. Actually, if you use flash memory sticks, you never have to have it appear on your computer at all. And there are all manner of Internet radio stations available--or set up a virtual radio station of your own. Nazis 1, Citizens 0.
And Brother Zerko25--Look into netbook computers if you want to be sure to have a size that will fit into a hotel safe. There's a Thread here that talks all about it--increasingly popular thus increasingly inexpensive.

I only want access to a computer/internet a few times while I'm down there. Are there any places you can just hop onto a computer? (I'm staying at SL)

Yes, there exists Internet cafes. Go the the library, and copy the San Jose downtown map out of Lonely Planet. I use this book solely for its street maps.

Thanks boys...I'll run some tests and see what I can figure out.

Worked like a charm at Amistad, Special K and I even had the WRONG S-video cable! Seems the laptop is 7pin and the TV is 4 pin! Still, the plugs worked. I've now acquired the proper cable which can be obtained here:

http://www.svideo.com/7pin.html

If you only want to carry around one set, it might be best to choose the option of 7pin out from the laptop to RCA plug as many older tv's will only have the RCA inputs and S-video. Just something to consider....
