After thinking for a day off and on i think everyone here has given you good advice. Yes you can stay at the at HDR and have a great time but as others say that can get old. The guys i go with rarely go anywhere.
Definitely get out and go some where. Like i said. All you have to do is give the cabbie the name of your hotel and they will bring you back.
For a handicapped person or in a wheel chair there is still a great time for you. You can do the HDR hands down.

I find all this talk of the girls asking cien to be mildly amusing.

On my 1st trip to San Jose in 2003 to my last in 2008 the nighttime girls who knew how to work the program almost always asked for cien. It got to be so comical Havana Blue even had T-shirts made up that said "NO CIEN" with the universal red circle and slash symbol across the front.

So if they are still asking for cien in 2014 consider that fortunate. If you can get them for less than that's a bargain.

Have fun

That's true but up to a few years ago, almost nobody paid cien for 1 hour back then. It used to be $60-70 max at the Rey and max $50 at SL. Now, it seems like all newbies and even those who have been around a few times are paying cien for a quick pop (not even an hour, usually 30-40 minutes, 20 if staying at DR) without hesitating. I think the chicas are more willing to hold out since they know newbies are pretty easy.

As for the t-shirt... I don't remember if it was the guy you are talking about but somebody brought some in 2005-2006 and was threatened by some bitches and I didn't see anybody wearing them for more than a few minutes until the bitches noticed.

Well here goes everybody on my 1st trip to Costa Rica in 2007--I stayed at
Motel M and paid 250 per night--went to the Del Rey in the morning and got a girl for 300 and told her I would take her to Jaco the next day--several drinks at the Rey and went back to Motel M where things went south--terrible phuck--took her to dinner with her taxi driver to the White House--75 dollar taxi and 450 for the meal--the bitch ordered an expensive bottle of wine--got back to M she passed out and left at 6 to feed her dog and when she came back I told security not to let her in-- went to Jaco--went to beatle bar etc.--went back to San Jose to the M and got another 300 dollar chica which turned out later to be a Tica Of The Month --Rose---anyway very expensive trip and now after 15 trips I have had a steady chica since 2008 and send her 2000 monthly and we get along great and I come to CR in January & July and we go to the beach and life is good!

Exactly!!

I am curious if you guys still pay the same as when you first started coming to Costa Rica?

Yes, but now the same price gets you a less attractive chica.

In 2005, you could get just about any chica at DR for 80 or less, usually no more than 60. But they all started with cien. At SL, in 2005, there were almost no chicas, then in 2006 it started picking up, and at that time $50 was the standard SL rate, you didn't even have to negotiate if they knew you didn't just step off the plane in CR for the first time. Now, you have to work for 80. In Jaco, you gotta work to pay cien, or so I hear and read.

On an hourly basis, not a whole lot more.
That being said, the chicas I see are going home with more; but that's because they are spending the better part of the day with me. I don't mind paying more if I'm getting more.

You did not ask me that directly but for the most part "YES"!! Well maybe just a little more (there has been some inflation  :!: And it is not just me, I know several who still pay more or less what we paid years ago for the same time and service!! Many of the "old timers" seem to be able to get more time and better service out of the chicas (Based on hearing comments about service and time and a huge difference in the number of complaints). Actually if you figure inflation into the equation many of us are paying less today than we did in past years!! Many of the chicas that come to see me I still pay the same $40 I did 5-7-10 years ago!! And they still stay the same 2 or more hours!!

Many are not going to like the rest of this but:

It use to be that it was kind of like a game! The chica asked "cien", EVERYONE countered with a low ball figure knowing she more than likely would not accept. She would then counter and eventually we would agree on around $50.No one was offended and everyone knew it was part of the game!!! It still works much the same for many of us "long timers"-guys who the chicas know and know we know the game and are not rich newbies out to show the world how much we can spend ! (EVER HEARD THAT OLD SAYING?? -- A FOOL AND HIS MONEY ARE SOON PARTED!!!  I keep hearing "She was worth it"!! WOW!!! Compared to what :?:  A USA hooker :?: As I have said many times before, "THIS IS COSTA RICA, NOTTHE USA!! LEAVE YOUR USA SPENDING HABITS AT HOME AND ADAPT TO THE ECONOMY AND PRICES HERE :!:  In other words 'WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE ROMANS DO' :!:  Throwing you money away "because you can" only makes you look like the fool you are in the chicas eyes!! This is a country with little money and people here guard what they have and do not spend money unnecessarily! AND they look at anyone who does as an idiot even when they are the recipient of the foolishly spent money!!

The chicas that refuse to go for less than "cien" or some other high figure do so not because the really think they are "worth it", but because they know there will always be some newbie Gringo more than willing to pay it!!! Yet she will often go with some "long timer" or maybe a Tico for much less!! I will add that now even many of the wealthier Ticos are willing to pay cien or close to it, but only for the very top in quality of looks and service!! As I have said before I also do not care what anyone else pays-it has little or no affect on what I pay!!

Costa Rica now has a new type of Gringo visitor-much younger, much more wealthy, much more foolish with their money!! Much more intent on showing the world how important they are! Much more wanting to impress people!! Much more insecure!! Much more into telling us "old guys" how stupid and out of touch we are when in fact it is them that are out of touch with reality!! They are much more disliked by other people all over the world!! Not just here in CR but all over the world people do not like boisterous actions, unnecessary spending, arrogance, nor stupidity! This is especially true in most Latin countries. For most who visit here in recent years, if they could understand Spanish and what is being said about them they would be (I hope ) ashamed!!! If they would spend the time getting to truly know these people and gaining their confidence; if they would learn they do not have to try to impress the locals by throwing their money away; they just might learn the truth about how the locals really feel about Gringos and they might learn meaning of respect and what having that respect will get you in the long run!!!!!!!!!!!

And finally: Asco1410I hope to hell your post was in jest   :!: Enough said!!!!

Oh, and Orange I do not think they are any less attractive; at least thru these old eyes they are not!!! In fact many are the same chicas  :!: OK, so they are a bit older now, BUT SO AM I!!! Seriously everyday the REY is full of chicas I saw there the first time I visited here nearly 20 years ago!! I often wonder who is doing them!!! Not this old fart!! :P

The great cien debate once more

BB57...I have been friends with you for a long time but on this, I disagree with everything you wrote earlier. None of the girls I know or would spend time with laugh at guys for overpaying. On the contrary, the majority of what I hear is how cheap guys are.

There is a reason the cream of the crop has left San Jose...

Yatzie, your posts and your point of view only prove what BB57 was trying to say.

So many younger guys think they have it all figured out only to realize later what they didn't know. You can travel and operate any way you feel but until you really begin to listen and learn will you understand. The culture is different. The lifestyle is different. What you see in places like the Del Rey is not the REAL culture. It lurks beneath the artificial surface that you see on vacation.

But I know it will be a waste of my time to try and enlighten you. You've already got it all figured out now don't you?

Enjoy your time in Costa Rica.

we listen Wit, even if we won't admit to it. I would like to say (off-topic) that the 'younger generation' did not create the bad reputation that Americans have, we 'inherited it' from the last generation.

Yatzie, pay what you want and be happy. No one can tell you yer doing it wrong if you're enjoying yourself. But too many guys (mostly non-CRTers) think they have to pay the asking price. Negotiation doesn't enter into their minds. After all, why would you try to talk a girl down from her price... it sounds un-gentlemanly. But the girls grew up on negotiation ... so who knows what they really think of the guys that just pay up.

PVT, I have seen the faces of chicas that get a propina which is way more than they think is normal. They're delighted to get it, but they look upon the giver as a nutjob. On my last trip I had two different chicas I had been with previously return from the HDR elevator with their cash, and joke about how easy the guy was and the fact that he paid them cien. I think far more Benjies come down the HDR elevator than in any other hotel in SJ.

dude, is it so hard to just respect someone else's opinion? You don't need to adopt it, but everyone has a right to do CR in their own way ... and talk about it.
