good posts- now I will cover how to play the game and win. Newbies pay attention, seasoned mongers- yawn if you must.

1. The girls in the Del Rey are pros, remember this at all times.

2. Always pay in colones, not in dollars, remember the chicas can calculate the exchange rate faster than you can, faster than the hotel reception area in the hotel that you are staying in, and faster than the National Bank. :?:

3. When a chica says " Hola Mi Amor", what she is really saying " hello my walking new ATM Machine". laugh when they say that, it is part of the game. :)

4. Negotiate all deals up front, and NEVER PREPAY FOR SERVICES RENDERED. Also if you agree for services rendered and the chica starts making excuses- THE GAME IS OVER< IF YOU ARE SMART, Firmly, but politely ask the chica to get her clothes, her cellphone, her purse full of lubricant. ( if it is early in the night, she needs to lube up for the guy she will be with 30 minutes from now. Remember she will be back in the bar faster than Marion Jones can sprint), this is why you must pay attention to the first sentence of this paragraph.

5. Do not carry a wad of cash with you anywhere, carry enough for a few drinks and enough to pay for the chica. Always use the deposit box in your room, and remember where you hid the key. :D

6. DO NOT GET SHITFACED WITH A CHICA, BAD MOVE ALWAYS.

7. They will always ask for a propina, that's a tip for you non- bilingual mongers. Only tip if the service was excellent. :P

8. Even if things have gone well and let's say you did have a great GFE experience with the chica and let's say it is morning and it is time for chica to leave, and she gives you her cellphone number ( you are among many), and you makes plans to meet her later in the day, perhaps she tells you she wants to go to the mall San pedro, or Multiplaza ( bring money there, not cheap) and your not thinking with the head on your shoulders at this time, but the head bewteen you legs that probably looks like a seahorse( because you nutted multiple times only 4 hours before and the blue pill that the experienced monger gave you and said only take half of it, but you took the whole 100mg). This is understandable, you just had a great time, your a little hungover, your body is tired, but you have a beautific smile on your face, almost like you have had a spiritual experience etc.... Pay attention, this is the time that you are most vulnerable. Remember Paragraph #1 of this tome, and Remember # 3 of this tome.. This is when the experinced DEL REY CHICA lures you ( really your wallet , ATM, and Credit Cards) in, like an Octopus. YOU ARE BEING HAD, GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR THEM, DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE BULLSHIT STORY, DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO HER PROBLEMS, ( HELL EVERYONE HAS THEM), AND WHEN SHE SAYS " TE QUIERO OR TE AMO" RUN LIKE HELL. DO NOT FALL IN LOVE.

If you follow these points and pay attention to what the old farts are saying you will have a great time.

While I understand that I am in the minority on this point of view I still feel that a new comer to CR or one who does not get here frequently is much better paying in dollars.

If you are comfortable when she says cien and you know that is 46,000 colones and you counter with $70.00 and know that is 32,200 colones then by all means negotiate in colones. If you can not instantly make that calculation I think you better sticking with $. As has been pointed out the girls CAN DO the calculation.

That might sound a little harsh Dogman, but you just laid out the truth exactly as it is. Rules to live by. Nothing against the girls, they are good. Has anyone ever crunched numbers? If these girls didn't let the cien thing hold them back, there is no reason any decent looking girl in the Del Rey should make a grand a week working in the evenings. Let's say they dropped to $60 per pop for two guys and then finish up with a cien all nighter, how hard would that be for the decent looking chicas. Just something to think about. Hell, I'm a struggling gringo making a living down here. Bet these "poor" chicas make 2 or 3 times what I do. I do love em though.

Hell...I know for a fact that my #2 favorita makes more money, in one week, working at the BM than I make in one month.  :x The only reason she has not been promoted to the #1 spot is because she's still hinting that although she doesn't mind me paying her less than other guys, she would like a raise.

hehe yeah, I was probably underestimating when I said 2 or 3 times, they probably make 4 or 5 times what I do. So, I guess I never understand the threads about sending money from the States. That is insane! No ifs, ands, or buts.

Third world ( Tercer Mundo).

So true. But even a dipshit, like myself has been caught in that game, oh but I learned and now have my doctorate in Del Rey Studies.

In Jaco now, kicking it for two days, until the regulators ( nuckinfuts, florida etc. arrive in SJO on thursday), any other ideas besdies the beatle bar, central disco, or the strip joint for horizontal action? I know the stripjoint is a clipjoint, but what the hell I will check it out.

estrellamar-

have a dominican last night out of the beatle bar. waste of $ 30,000 Colones. lazy lay, left after 2 hours, fine with me, she had the balls to ask for taxi fair. I laughed, told her she could walk back to the beatle bar, too much of a mercenary for my taste.

I will be in the beatle Bar, probably around 6:00 to have my first beer. I need at least until then to dry out.

I wasn't thinking good when you said you were staying in Estrellamar. That's right down the street from my house. I was going to stop by and say hello but realized that I couldn't just walk up to the desk and ask for Dogman. haha Hope you're having a good time in Jaco.

More questions for you wise & experienced mongers:
I've see in Ace's optional list that a cheap cd player and cds are listed. I've noted mention of that elsewhere in the forum, too.
First, we're talking a cheapo cd boom box kind of deal here, with a 110 volt plug, no? Doesn't CR use 110?
Second, I'm guessing there are dual purposes in dragging such a device along - one, to provide a bit of a romantic atmosphere for a nice chica, and two, to mute certain sound effects that a prudish hotel neighbor might not fully appreciate. Is there any other reason to lug a boom box to CR?
Last, with regard to music that might help put a chica in a favorable mood, I'd imagine, being a somewhat older specimen myself, that the music young Ticas would dig would send me running up the Pan American highway screaming with my arms over my head. As far as latin music is concerned for example, I can say "Santana" and "Los Lobos" and "Buena Vista." After that, no se nada.
Please advise. Gracias. :!:

Couple of small suggestions:
Instead of Pepto I bring a few Imodium or Lomotil for the "William Walker's Revenge" and some Zantac for heartburn. These pills are HIGHLY effective, compact and not subject to spillage or breakage in your bag. I also bring a few pain relievers, antihistamines, plain antacids etc. as it does not take up much space.
I think it is an essential idea to bring photocopies of all important documents - passport, cc cards, tickets etc. and keep them seperate from the originals in case any are lost or stolen. However I go one step further. As soon as I arrive in CR, I have the guy at the change booth in the DR photocopy my passport photo page AND the page with my latest entry stamp. They will do this gratis and you might need both if hassled by the immigration folks during a raid or if stopped.

have to agree there. had some really bad stomach problems on my last trip out of the country. imodium was really helpful, pepto bismol not so much.

Alerted by my own list.
I was amending my list of what to bring, to add a backpack for field trips, and I saw the listing to bring a folding umbrella in April thru December. I am in the middle of packing for my own trip in two days and realized I forgot my umbrella.

Thank you list, for the reminder.

I wouldn't worry about the umbrella. They are cumbersome to pack and can be baught on any street corner in San Jose when it is raining for 1,000 colones.
