What I had found out after I had been with a girl and wanted a repeat with her, was that once she knew that I would hold her accountable, I would get a whatsapp or text from her that she was late. Before letting them go off on there own I would reiterate not to forget about being late and get them to tell me what the time frame was and what I expected, this way there was no doubt the understood what I said. I even had one text me from home saying her husband wanted sex before he went to work, and she had to service him. She asked if I would wait till she showered and cleaned up or if i wanted to reschedule. I made it later for the day as I had plans with friends and all was good. I also let her know that I was very happy with the text and bought her food to eat for the consideration. I learned very quickly to let them know I was a man of my word and was not afraid to say "see you later".

I totally disagree. One of my pet peeves is punctuality, especially with my employees & K*ds. Habitually showing up late (which means not early in my opinion) is a lack of respect for my or anyone elses time & disrespect for that person.

I am much more lenient when I am in the CR or anywhere else down there because I know it is a way of life for them. If this is one of Oranges Rules or Stipulations, let him have it! TEHO!
I'd be willing to bet if you laid out all of your guidelines, someone would say you were "wound to tight" about one or more of them!

Keep walking past them in the hallway, more power to you Orange!

I believe in punctuality and in one of my previous lives worked at a radio station where switching over from one program to another had to be done manually and so timing was all important to prevent "dead air".
This meant you only had seconds to do it right. I am always on time.
Now as a retired person one of my golf buddies just cannot make it to the tee in time leading to a lot of aggro. Since we have worked together for more than 20 years the rest of us just tolerate it.
What I mean is that I give different people more of less time. If it is a really good friend or chica I will cut them more slack than someone I do not know or care about.
Be flexible.

We have solved this problem. If someone is late or can't start when we tee off we tell them to have the Marshall to bring them to whatever hole we are on or meet us on the back nine!! No aggro on anyone's part!!!

This thread is a perfect example of how there are many ways to work the hobby. Personally I've not experienced the sitting and waiting, with exception of receiving a message that 'she will be late'. A couple of times I cancelled it, then and there, and others I just grab a drink and hang out. I don't stress over it.

I do think that it is a mistake to try and hold non-professional people from time-independent cultures to account for North American cultural values. We are brought up to live by the clock strike. What I have found so far in CR (and limited experience in MDE) is that the rest of the world doesn't give a rats ass about how we think the world should work.

In general, in the gulch, you are dealing with:

1. people without a professional work ethic,
2. people from a culture that does not place 'time' on a pedestal,
3. WOMEN!

Any of the above will lead to stress for the most hardened schedule maker.

I agree with Orange on this one. I adopted this same new rule. 15 min will be my max from now on.

And #3 is probably #1 by a mile!

Being punctual is a demonstration of respect. One of the real negative things about Costa Rican society is they do not respect each other much less respect us. It is part of the Pura Vida lifestyle. I agree with Orange on this one. I understand that they may not especially like the hand that life has dealt them and a way to show their displeasure is by being consistently late but if they are allowed to get away with being disrespectful then their response will be to see how far they can push the envelope.

I agree with this outlook. I live in South Florida and about 1/2 or more of my clients are Latin women. They, for the most part, are always late. I call it "LWT" for Latin Womens Time. If I want them at my office at 2:00 I make them an appointment for 1:30. It usually works out pretty good. Years ago I would stress out about being late now I come to expect it and do what BD does and have a drink or watch some TV. No need to stress while on vacation or even at work.

In the US, Britain, Germany, Japan and a few other countries, yes. But in many others (France, Spain, Greece, Italy, etc) punctuality is not the overmastering precept of life.

By all means, live life by your own rules. Just remember that 'respect' is a two-way street.

In the end, all you'll have accomplished is blowing off good sessions, pissing off many chatty chicas, and possibly making a reputation as a gringo that cancels appointments at the last minute.

Still, hopefully you 15-minute guys can make a difference that the rest of us can capitalize on.

The next time that I lose sleep over what some chicas are saying about me will be the first time I lose sleep over it.

Reputation? You mean there's a chance they won't want to take my money... oh heavens. Gee, I hope that I can find one that will overlook it.
