Really     ....thanks for clearing that up - we would not have known     :P :P :P :P  :)

Seriously - while I get the impression this is business trip that could turn into a trip with benefits for you vs a planned monger trip, I can't say enough how much info is contained on CRT - reading the board might give you a level of comfort with the seamer aspects of the Zona Roja in San Jose - if the "search" function was not so lame, I'd suggest that.

Still, lots of great info here :)

I actually only stayed there once and I loved everything except the fact that they tried to steal all my shit....lol My dumb-ass actually thought about going back on my next trip....but I just can't do it. They were so scandalous with the way they treated me and the way they acted after the shit went down....it's just crazy. A few bad apples are really phucking up a good hotel.

Call me crazy but for the life of me I can't understand what the draw to this place is. I stay at the HDR, I have friends stay at SL, Scores, Zona and Dunn Inn, I even have a cheap friend who loves the thug haven Morazon.

The last thing we worry about is hotel employees stealing from us. Now here's this place in an out of the way section of town, no chicas, and you have to worry about your stuff being stolen, even having your safe broken into!!!! Why are you guys putting up with this???????

Netgems you've been on CRT long enough to know that many members will do whatever it takes to save $20! CRT = Cheap Raunchy Tourists.

I once had a frugal pal who would stay at the Morazon, eat at only the cheap fast food chicken places here, take the bus to and from the airport, never tip a girl, and pick ugly old hags from the old New York Bar for as low as $40 to $50 yet blow a monster load gambling every day...  :o

Captain, that is not logical ! :!: :!: :!: :!: -Spock

Stayed one night at the Mona Lisa in August. Left because of two reasons- advertised AC did not work(no ceiling fans) and sign at desk saying that management is not responsible for content lost in safes. That sealed it for me.

It's just the idea of the $12 elevator fee at the HDR that gets me. At least they don't charge $12 for the chica to go back down. Whoops, I hope I didn't give Big John a new idea! :)

I know guys who don't like that fee so they sometimes stay at more expensive places and have the hassle and wasted time plus expense of taking a taxi with their HDR girl back to their hotel room....Me ? when I visit I stay at the HDR and hit an MP in the afternoon and bring a girl to my room in the eve, so it's only 1x a day for me, I just factor it in my room expense like garage parking at the airport...

Looks like if you want to be in the belly of the beast with no night travel hassle, HDR is for you,

If you want to be at the most fun place which is in a quieter nicer neighborhood, SL is the place.

If a classy place with great food is your game, La Amistad is where you go.

If you like a cool small location close to great rated girls who have good attitudes and reputations, Scores and/or Zona foots the bill...

If you apparently like living dangerously and are willing to take a risk like your entire cash load, your passport, your credit cards, your drivers license all your important papers, your computer your condoms all stolen your first day and your a/c not working....you know the place to go....

Net, I was kidding, as I usually do. HDR is a great option, and when you factor in the convenience it is really a smart choice. A candy store downstairs and a short trip upstairs to paradise!

I hate to jump back in - you will see why when you read the whole post.

But........One thing I've learned during my life:

There is almost always time and money available for what someone wants to do or feels its important to do - or likes to do. (And frankly, Net - the bus for a buck should be at the top of manys list - maybe not for your first few trips - but it gats to SJ about the same time as a cab and you save about $30 - which can pay 1/2 your hotel room for that day, or your dinner - or a couple lunches - its not being cheap - its being smart - at least IMHO)>

(Re the Morazon - your friend is not even close - we have had guys promote hotel Nuevo Johnson - a true shit hole of world class proportions - Morazon is like the Ritz compared to it)

I think a distinction has to be made - and I also think on this particular topic "You don't know what you don't know" comes into place.

We have guys like Yatzie, the self appointed defender of the Newbi (New guys would be better off learning more and spewing less - not just Yatzie)

You know, guys holding the philosophy:

YOU OLD CHEAP COCKSUCKERS BETTER NEVER SAY ANYTHING AGAINT MY BELIEFS THAT I'M GONNA SPEND WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT TO AND BETTER NEVER TELL ME I CAN'T PAY A GIRL WHATEVER THE Phuck I WANT TO fame - as well as some others who feel similarly - or at least post so :) .

Its the degree that gets to me - as well as the ignoring of good info - since I named Yatzie, let me name BangBang57 - I like him, and consider him a friend - do I agree 100% with everything he has ever said since Calvin Coolige was president - along about the time he was born (Sorry - I'm kidding :P     :P ) no - nor him me.

But I do think his point of view merits consideration - you can't argue with his on the ground experience.

And new guys need to learn a little about Costa Rica, more importantly its culture, before they act in in such definitive ways - its great guys like Yatzie are interested in the place - but I see - and not just in him - a trend that I'm gonna do and pay what I please and if you don't you are a cheap ass. - look, you post on a forum, you have to expect feed back - and this is the way many of your posts have come across to me - but don't take it personally - PLENTY of guys have issues with my posts and are not shy about expressing their "disagreements"   :P :P :P

(I will not even start on the newbi who tipped the amount of his secession at a brothel - way to much, especially in a non tipping oriented culture like Costa Rica's) Its tempting, I know - $20, $30, hell, even $50 more - who gives a damn - you are down on vacation, what the hell. I just think we are better off conforming to the local culture).

How do they assign a monetary value to the amount a guy withdraws? I hope the guy doesn't have to leave his pecker as a tip. I wonder if the chica has some precision instruments to measure the size of a customer's pecker. Is the charge based on the difference in size at insertion and withdrawal? Scuba1, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones - remember leeks?

On a serious note, I think a tip should be based on the service received. I sometimes tip 100% at a restaurant, if the check is small and I receive exceptional service. I relate that to a MP. If you tip $10 or $20 at a MP that charges $50 - $60, what is wrong with tipping the same amount at a MP that charges $16 if you receive comparable service from a comparable provider? I am not calling anyone cheap if they don't tip like that; but, conversely, I don't think someone should be criticized if that is his tipping style.

......And I'm not a self-appointed Newbi defender. I'm just someone who will stand-up for what I believe against a bunch of Costa Rica know-it-all's.
