Tsa pre check has separate line and you do not have to take shoes off or take out laptop.
When you book your ticket you put in your ge number in pre check field. If you forget. When you get to ticket counter you can tell em you forgot to do it and show them your card and have them put number in. When they print your boarding pass it should come out with pre check on it. That means no long line no hassle.
Hope that helped

Not all airlines are approved for TSA Pre-check, and not all airports have it.

Scuba1, you should have received a card about the size of a credit card a week or two after you were approved. It even has it's own pouch to shield it from magnetic fields. It is the card you would use for border crossing from Mexico and Canada.

Many airports do not have pre-check established lines, such as my own. You stand in the same line, still have to take your laptop out of your bag, but you can keep your light jacket on and shoes, just show your boarding pass with the Pre-Check highlighted. Unless you have a full body scanner, which I refuse to go through.

Its not much, but better than nothing. I also use a special travel belt, nylon and plastic, so I don't have to take it off too.

Used Global Entry on my recent return trip through IAH, quick and easy. Maybe 3 people in front of me, took all of 5 minutes total. Another benefit is that you are automatically TSA pre-check.

You still have to go thru TSA screening if getting a connecting flight thru IAH.

Scuba1, If I remember correctly back when you applied for GE, there was a separate box you had to check in order to receive the GE/Sentri card. Back then the only advantage was for land border crossings. Not sure if the TSA Pre check had even started yet. You may be able to contact them and still get the card.

This is a little off subject, but still about Global Entry. When I arrived at immigration in Orlando today, there were a number of people waiting at Global Entry (only two kiosks). As I observed, there were two families, one with four Ch*ldren and one with three Ch*ldren - none of them had US passports. Also, the couple next in line did not have US passports. After many struggles, all of them were approved. Most of their passports were brown, but I didn't see what country issued them. They selected Spanish at the kiosk. It appears that not only is GE becoming more popular with US citizens, but also citizens of other countries.

They do have a TSA pre-check lane when you connect.

Last time the prick TSA guy sent me the wrong way, as soon as I realized it, I tried to get back to the pre-check line, but they said too late, so sad, too bad.

When I applied I was told that if I get a new passport, I have to bring it in to get it added to the system.

NOT TRUE.

I went to the GE office and after a 30 minute wait, my passport was added to my account. And then I was told that I could have update it online myself without going there.

Here is a backup option for those denied GE. Have used it 4 or 5 times now coming back to the US. Longest plane to street has been about 20 minutes (had a checked bag), shortest was 8 (carry on only)

I'll try that. I wasn't going to drive 2 hours for the GE interview.

If this is free, why should anybody pay the $100 for GE? What are the differences?

This is a cell phone app? At JFK, they yell at people for even having your cell phone outside of your pocket. Somebody may get shot for using it.

Yes free. And a mobile app. I have it all set on the phone during taxiing to the gate. Pull the phone when I get near the kiosks.

Only difference is you need to stop at customs on the way to the outer doors. After the mobile passport kiosk (right with the GE kiosks). Scan the bar code on their reader. Wait for the green light and out the door

TSA Pre-check would be a big help when I come to the US, but I don't see any of the airlines I use on the list of TSA Pre-check.

There is no immigration stamp in the passport with Global Entry? The new passport kiosks for the general population of passengers have really helped expedite the entry process.
