Don't really care to discuss my health problems here that much but my arthritis is hereditary degenerative arthritis in the joints (everyone on my Mother's side of the family has had it!!). My Dr. in the states actually recommended I move here without even knowing I had already been here many times and was planning the move when I retired. I have tried just about everything they have ever come up with as a possible help. The nicest thing about living here (besides the chicas of course) is that in the states I was taking a lot of meds everyday (I hate taking meds of any kind)!! A month after moving here I was off all meds, and I refuse to take the crap and will as long as I can possible stand the pain!!

Please understand I am NOT looking for sympathy from anyone, just trying to explain what the problem is and maybe give others a reason to live here in addition to the Chicas!!!!

But this is one "political correctness" that if misused by you or anyone in CR can and probably will cause a lot of grief!! He (Luis) was not laughing because of what you said but rather he was laughing AT you. Over the phone is one thing! When talking to someone in a gringo /chica friendly hotel, they are use to hearing Gringos misuse the term. Yes he would laugh at you on the phone but face to face, not likely! More likely even as a employee in said hotel he might very well tell about the "facts of life in CR".

Using a term here that includes every female citizen of the country from small girls to grandmothers to refer to "putas" is very offensive to Ticos and you just might find out how offended they are if you do it when here. It is a very simple thing to not do--just use the (offensive, as in vulgar) word "puta" or better "working chicas" and people will know what and who you are talking about but not be insulted nor offended, and you just might have more fun while here!!

Don't get defensive about us correcting you! It is a very common newbie mistake! It also marks you as very much a newbie which is something you will probably wish you could avoid when here, but you can't--they can tell a newbie the minute you walk in the door!!

Oh, and in the del REY what you told him about taking chicas to your room would not shock nor surprise him! What WOULD surprise him would be if you told him you would not be taking chicas to your room!!! The REY is 100% a mongering hotel!!!

Just might be because when you go to DR the only putas there are Dominicanas and when you go to MDE they are all COLOMBIANAS thou not all Paisas (many lie to you guys about where in Colombia they are from). When WE come here to CR MANY of the putas (in many places 1/2 or more) are not Ticas but are Dominicanas, Colombianas, Panamanas, or Nicas!!!!! But more importantly it just might be that we prefer to show respect to the people of the country we are visiting by not implying that ALL their women are putas!!! Ticos (the people of Costa Rica) ARE offended by Gringos using the term to refer to putas, so why not just as easily use "puta", "working chica", or just Chica. It is just a matter of showing some respect to the people of the country-something too many people from the USA do not understand

Rocky, my last word to you on this!! With your attitude towards the people here I am sure you will have a great trip!! NOT With all the problems we are having already here, all the uncertainty about the hobby here, all the problems coming and going into and out of the country, the last thing needed is another tourist who doesn't understand crap about showing respect when in another country.

Oh, and be sure to call a Colombiana or a Nica a Tica while here!! You will have ensured yourself a "great" time in bed with her
