How far in advance should I book a room at a chica-friendly place? Searching in the "Hotels" forum on "reservations january" doesn't get me a whole lot of info. Some people say they've just gotten rooms for cash by walking in. However, internet searches elsewhere suggest that January is part of the busy season and I'd be well-advised to make reservations far in advance. (Like, *now*--in August.)

From one 1st time noob to another I`ll share my experience with you...
Two Fridays ago 7/29 my passport arrived in the mail, I immediately filled out a reservation request via th SL website for 9/2 thru 9/9. Received a reply before 10 pm they could not accomdate me 9/2 thru 9/4. Saturday morning I emailed LaAmistad and they had room for me, I booked and by 10:30am Saturday morning my trip was set. 9/2-9/4 LA then 9/4-9/9 SL. Half & Half I think some would call it.

If not for joining this board I would not have known the `good` places to book such a trip. Plus it was easy & quick. 8)

Also, since CR is a well-known mongering destination...what do you tell people who ask nosy questions about your trip? You know, people you don't want to be outright rude to by telling them some variant on "NOYFB". Coworkers and such. I'm interested to hear your ideas.

GVI,

Why tell them that your going to CR at all? Try something boring like visiting family in Kansas, North Dakota, etc.

I told co-workers that I was going to CR and went with storyline of sightseeing, canopy zip lines, ATV's trips, rainforest hiking........

Everything was fine until the one f'n biach just couldn't contain herself anymore and in the lunchroom in front of 8-10 other people had to say......"I'm told that there is a lot of prostitution in CR"........I calmly responded with "if that is what I was interested in, why would I travel 5,000 miles when I could get that right here?"

She and everyone else was like......."Oh ya, why would you do that". It got dropped right then and there and was never brought up again.

Finally - and please take this in the spirit its being written - I get you choose your handle likely because you are not a very experienced traveler - but I would never label myself as an "idiot" (or let anyone else for that matter) - you asked some good, valid questions.

Just a bit of self-deprecating humor...something I do a lot. If you can't laugh at yourself  , then who can you laugh at? Mostly I chose the handle because when I signed up, I had to make up something quickly, off the top of my head, and I'm really bad at that sort of thing.

And hey, thanks for all the help--that was a very lengthy and informative answer you wrote.

As far as airfare, yeah, I think I'm gonna wait until 6-8 weeks before I travel to start thinking about buying a plane ticket. Looking at the fare sites it seems that what's for sale now is the standard "rack rate" that you get for buying many weeks in advance, it's not any particularly good sort of "sale price" or anything.

.................Also will recommend you contact http://www.popsguideservice.com and have him give you a tour -

a Big +1

Have him pick you up at the airport and don't forget to hit the duty free downstairs in baggage claim.

The first day with him will almost guarantee you a perfect trip.

Airfare can be tricky. 550's is high from the northeast. You should get in the low 400's, without having to endure Spirit and their bullshit. Best time to book is 30-60 days before the trip. Booking too far out is no good because of the unpredictability of oil prices. Airlines don't know what oil will cost in 6 months, so they are going to err on the side of caution and jack up the fares until it gets closer to the travel date.

Sign up for alerts on Kayak and they will email you when the price drops to the level you set. Check daily and you may hit a sale. Be ready to buy on the spot because they often last only a day or two, or even a few hours.

The sites below are good. The first one searches for a date you pick and 30 days after. All you do is tell them when you want to travel and for how many nights (can be a range "5-8")It will come back with the best fares on all airlines. You then buy the tix on the airline website directly. No links, you have to go to the airlines' site yourself.

The second site goes out up to 3 days before and after your trip date to find the best fares. And they provide links to book tickets.

Orange

If this guy is flying out of BOS ...AA is the only good way, good flight times, down and back, and $550 is the best rate

If he can fly out of JFK.... then OK..... cheaper... I hope

In 2009 it was $98 each way plus tax

Yeah, flying out of BOS. AA/DL/UA/CO/US all look about the same, really.
JFK or EWR would be doable, but would be a pain to get to. I'd have to get major cost savings or a vastly improved flight schedule to offset the hassle of getting there. And at this point, that option's looking like a lose.

I have fare alerts set up on Kayak, and am checking ITA daily as well. Got my credit card all ready to go if the price drops.

I tell every one that I am doing Volunteer Charity work --- one your lady at a time, some times 2 at a time, maybe 3 at a time. BUT never 4 at a time.

OR I tell them I am there to chase woman, then they always want to know if I ever catch any with a laugh," YEP 2-3 a day, unlike here they do not run away, instead then RUN AT ME" :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D --- now they are no longer laughing, but have a scared what the Phuck look on their face.

A couple of ladies have called me on it, and I asked them Jealous cause you could not make money that way, shut them up fast, except for one who seems to be giving it some thought,( she keeps bring up the subject with lots of question on what, how much, how long, and she sees no reason why a lady should be able to rent out her bod, She is short money but her boobs went from 36DD to 34c due to divorce,so she going to go cheap

Frankly I could give a dam who knows or what they think any more, I got my 30 year pension .

He is right. The truth told in a humorous light is the best way to go. Something like, "I am going to practice my Spanish - on the ladies." You can also say you are going with some friends from all over the US for a reunion i.e. to meet your CRT "friends" who are always having a reunion. If you look guilty and act guilty they will think you are guilty. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Why did that woman's boobs shrink from divorce? I don't get it. Was she very obese and now is very thin?

no she was also good looking and nice weight, not skinny like a sick 15 year old, now like a rail with a this side up tattooed on her chest

Stress caused weight loss, ex was doing every thing in his power to make life hell, starting rumors, mind games with the K***, withholding money, stalking, and putting all UT bill in her name, to name a few.
