Berkette,

Man if I were that afraid of Costa Rica after as many trips as you have made, I would find somewhere else to travel too. That bus ride during the day is as safe as any I know of in the USA. actually safer than a lot. As PR said, if you have more than carry on, It is a hassle that I would not attempt. BUT it just is not that dangerous :!:

I guess you're unfamiliar with the term satire and irony. I always find it amusing how one will part with untold amounts of money for airfare, food, and women on one hand and on the other look for a way to save a few bucks getting into town.

QBF,
Do you (at least) wash your junk in the restroom before leaving the airport? Or do you just let the chica gobble your goo as soon as you get off the plane, without a shower?

What do you mean, MG? He is "washing" it in the airplane lav all the way from the US just so he won't have to drop a load in the immigration lady on the baggage carousel! A new meaning to "going through customs..."    :P

I generally take a shower at the airport in NY before I hop on the plane, depending on what airline I'm flying, I've got the AMEX platinum, and it gets me into most of the airline clubs... When flying CO I get into the CO lounge at EWR, when flying Delta, at theirs, and when flying Taca I go to the Virgin lounge...

And the chica can deal with 4 hr of me sitting in a first class seat drinking cuba libres....

You should know by now that I travel WAY too light to bother with baggage...

  I always find it amusing how BERK takes his ASSUMPTIONS of how "one" parts with UNTOLD amounts of money for airfare, food, and women and presents these assumptions as FACT in order to make a POINT...  :P Like he has any REAL CLUE on how I or YOU part with OUR money...PUh-leaaaaase!!!

Would ASSUME it would be dangerous to be a patient of a "medical professional" who is partial to this type of thought processess...

I just dont get why you would go on a vacation and take a bus to save XX amount of money.

To each their own, but I would rather stay at home and work another week then budget myself to that point.

I live here so I maybe do not fit what you are saying, but I take buses 90% of the time no matter where I am going whether it be here in SJ or to the beach, or to Nicaragua, or Panama, or anywhere else in Central America. The Idea that they are more dangerous is strickly ignorance of them. And yes, I did get pick pocketed getting off a bus, but that could have just as easily happened in a million other areas and circumstances. I understand that taxis actually get robbed more often than buses (and the taxista frequently is in on the robbery).

I do not see it as skimping while "spending untold amounts" on other things; but, the savings will just about pay for one more session in a MP :D  . I see it as being conservative and inteligent about how I spend my money. BUT then I do not throw my money away on chicas that will not come off "cien, nor do I tip "42%", nor do I eat in restuarants where it is going to cost me $100 for an average meal. I guess what I am saying is; I do not throw my money away when not necessary--that is the quickest way I know of to find ones self broke and wishing you had been less of a spend thrift! Remember, over spending is what got the USA and the American people in the mess they are in today.

JMHO and, Jmacaula, this was really in no way aimed specifically at you.

Nor was my post aimed at you BB.
I just dont get the spending habits of some of the new guys on here.

Staying at the Morazon over a place like the HLH is one thing. You know, choosing to go to the low end MP's instead of the high end ones is another.

Taking a local bus upon arrival from a flight just to save 20$ makes zero sense to me. Your not being cultured by getting on a bus. A taxi is perfectly normal culture, or else they wouldnt have them. Where are your culture tactics when your handing over 100$ bills for an hour? I dont see to many ticos in mix doing the same.

Again not directed at anyone. Just gets me shaking my head.

The key comment here is "to me" meaning, the author, Jmacaula...and thats cool... no one is shaking their head at you taking your taxi...it's your money spend it as you see fit... but don't get too much of a headache there with your head shakin' at the bus riders! Not worth it! :P :P

Here's a thought gents...why not just give out information and let everyone decide for themselves? We'll all big boys are we not?

Exactly. Im just voicing my opinion. I could theoretically care less if everyone else on here jammed onto a bus and I paid for my taxi.

I took the bus for 600 colonges, it left me off a couple of blocks from the central mercado all for about 1.10. I had 2 carry on sized pieces of luggage and brought them on the bus, nice trip took about 40 minutes or so. I will take the bus next time too.
Staying at my favorate cheap hotel the nuevo johnson, the price is about 13.00 now in colonges.
Now i have to find out where to catch the bus for puerto viejo and i will leave for there tomorrow.
Pretty quiet down here.
