I am new to this board and I absolutely agree! After reading some of these posts I see most of the guys here are sincere and have a wealth of knowledge. There is lots we can learn from each other and contributing to this board is justified. Shit...I don't know any of you personally and I felt comfortable sharing some of my secrets :P

Thanks for the post Dave, Very accurate, and it remind me of my good friend Mucho Gusto's post here:

Particularly THIS part...

Well, here's my take on this:
CRT was started by a couple guys in 2003. In a span of less than 6 years, there's been almost 18,000 registered members sign up for this site. Granted, the lion's share of them don't contribute much (or anything) of value to this site. Some members never post at all. Many members have come and gone, and are forgotten. Some members occasionally jump in, and post in a thread or two, then go away again. Some members come along, and do nothing but stir the pot.

But then there's the “core” of the membership. I'm talking about a couple hundred guys, who are consistently active on the site, who read and post regularly. Guys who plan their trips to CR and/or various countries around the world, based on each other's schedule(s). Guys who bust each other's balls on a regular basis. Guys who flame each other back and forth, but it's usually just a harmless dick-measuring contest. Guys who continue to correspond with each other, whether they're in CR or at home. And guys who have gone out of their way to help out an endless stream of newbies, answering questions and giving advice.

Because of this site, many of us have become best of friends, and I'm sure a lot of those relationships will last a lifetime.

Respectfully,
Mucho Gusto

my brothers, THIS is what CRT is ALL about !!!

Steven1,

I assume you're poking fun at Paco and Cujo talking about a party and the cliqueishness you perceive. You know, it isn't really like that. Admittedly, I don't have the handshake, password, attire or DFK. There is a 'secret' however: .......(shhhh!)(drumroll)... DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE.

My experience is that guys who act friendly and civilized are always encouraged to be part of the group. So for the newbies, listen up. We were all newbies at one time and felt like outsiders. However, we acted in a way that people would want to be around us. That is how it begins and it snowballs. A couple of trips to CR and you have more buddies than you can imagine. Not rocket science, really.

Dude....are you "lecturing" me? My old man finally figured out he couldn't do that and that was well before he kicked the bucket.

Each and every one of us is an ass hole (using your term) to someone anytime of the night or day. That includes me; and that includes you. I live quite comfortably with my status and am amused and bemused by the need of grown men to throng together in packs. I don't do sports or tailgateing, either. I don't need the acceptance of the mass....and quoting George Bernard Shaw: "Popularity is the sure sign of mediocrity....".

I fly solo and like it that way. I don't cocck block and best not be cocck blocked. All this talk about "wingman this" and "wingman that" is a pure D trip to this Airman....

Still, I'm more than getting my money's worth with this place.....and that don't even include what happens when I go to CR!!!

What....Thumper's Mommy is in charge here?! hahahahahah....funny stuff....but thanks for the effort....it IS appreciated!! 8) :P

PS: Let me let YOU in on a little known secret: Costa Rica ain't nothing special relative to whore houses. The process is essentially the same everywhere in the world....don't make no trouble on grounds and there won't be no trouble....have eyes in the back of your head.....and use common sense....be you in CR, Frankfurt, Prague, Amsterdam, Kiev, Phukket, Bangkok, Bombay (what's the new word? I forget....); Hanoi, Saigon, Angeles City, blah, blah, blah. There are good places, not so good places, and better places and then there are just plain BAD places.

Mumbai.

P.S. You must be old school :) I still call it "Peking", not Beijing.

Steven1

I wasn't lecturing you. You seemed to be speaking for newbies generally when you said:

Steven1 wrote:

Therefore, I addressed newbies to inform them that the cliqueishness that you seemed to mock doesn't really exist for someone who will observe some very basic social norms and put out their hand.

If you wish to run solo, then more power to you. However, your disparagement of those of us who enjoy social interaction is quizzical because you appear to be a live and let live sort of guy. Maybe I'm mistaken, as mediocrity may have taken its toll on me.

There's room for all types among the CRT brotherhood. Any number of us previously flew solo, including me, because of the lack of acceptance of this hobby in society. Meeting fellow CRTers in CR ended that isolation, as acceptance of this hobby is our watchword.

Each trip I make to Costa Rica (18 now), I am fortunate to meet a few new CRTers, to run into a few I've met before, and very fortunate to meet up with a few with whom I've become good friends. It's always good to see a familiar face and it's always great to see an old friend.

:D i have to agree, it did seem somewhat cliquish, but all the guys are a blast to hang out with....you have to be in good shape though, a few times i walked with a group to the DR they walked real fast and liked to zig-zag across streets...they liked to play hide and seek also..they were always hiding in doorways and such :D :D

You know, for the most part, I feel the same way as you...I always go to SJ alone & don't really feel the need for a wingman. But the difference is that you're mocking these other guys who do like that kind of thing, which is, IMO, not necessary. Different strokes & all that. Color me shocked that the concept of YMMV seems to be over your head.
