Tstef,
Save yourself some money, and just order it directly from their website: www.magicjack.com I think Radio Shack is about $40 for the Magic Jack, but it's 1/2 that on their website. Just my dos colones.... :?

Magic Jack works fine, but the drawback is you have to be AT your computer for it to work.... I tend to like to roam the SL or Amistad without being tied to the computer for phones so Here is my solution.

I use a specific WI-FI Phone from Skype... You need Skype with a skype out and skype in Ring to account it certainly is more expensive than Magic Jack but it does give you some freedom...

Example: The wifi phone works anywhere there is a wifi signal. It is to be used ONLY connecting to your skpye account. It will bring up all your contacts etc just like you are on skype on the computer. You can than receive inbound or make outbound calls to US #'s at 1.7 cents per minute. You can also forward any phone cell etc to your Skype IN #. The # showing up outbound will be 99999999 or 000000000 nobdy says why did it show up that way I just say out of area if they do.

I've used it at Sportsmens, Zona Blue HLH, Amistad, Presidente, The Airport, free hotspots around town Phone Costs $124.00 Its a much more pricey alternative than Magic Jack, but for those who don't like to be tied to the computer heres the answer.

Tstef,
You should have it within a week. Once you get it, it only takes a couple minutes to plug it into your computer and go through the prompts to set up your desired phone number. Once you've done this, you can program all your phone numbers into your list of contacts. It makes it much easier later on, so you don't have to remember phone numbers. Just point and click, and it dials the number for you.

I believe it's still $20 for one year of unlimited service. But when I set up my account (last March) there was an option to sign up for 5 years for $49.95. I was hesitant to do that initially, because I wanted to see how the damn thing worked before I signed up for the 5 year plan. Now I wish I had done that. If that option is still available when I renew next month, I'll definitely be doing that.

Good luck with your new MagicJack!

MG

Saying that you have to be at your computer forMagicJack to work is like saying you have to be home for your home phone to work. Personally, I bought an $80 cordless to use with mine and I was able to walk all the way out to the street and down it some and still get a signal. If I happen to be gone from my hotel when someone calls the well, I'm not home or I walked into the store and left my cell on the charger, or the battery was dead. I can check my cell v-mail when I get back and sorry boss, my battery was dead, I called you back as soon as I could.

I do like the the skype wi-fi phone though. I think the new Nokia N97 is going to be skype wi-fi capable. I can't wait for that phone to hit the market. Then I won't even have to take my laptop with me.

Has anybody tried to use the MagicJack with one of the little mini laptops, just wondering if they have enough storage for the software or not.

BhueyXXXVII, what up? Still hitting that Mexican poon? The new mini-laptops, called Netbooks, are now equipped with 160GB of hard drive. Just bought one myself. No problem getting MagiJack to work on it.
