The first time my girl wrote "te extraño", my translator came up with "I am strange to you...." :?:

I thought about it and that she was saying that I was strange. :oops:

But like others have said, it means "I miss you"

I had the same translation. I just chocked it up to bad spelling or the lack of accents.

A little Spanish 101. The word "te" before a verb means the speaker is directing something at you specifically.

Te amo= I love you.
Te extrano= I miss you
Te olivido= I forgot you
Te detesto= I hate you

Just remember it is something directed at you. So, when doing a translation and you come upon a translation that says, in this example, "you are strange to me." You can rule that out as the meaning. The use of "te" before a verb is one of those little building blocks that can advance the command of Spanish and comes in very handy in conversation. :D

I forgot 2 important ones.

Te creo= I believe you (when speaking with hookers, you won't use this one much.)
NO te creo= I DO NOT believe you (learn this one well)
No te creo mas= I DO NOT believe you anymore (when you are truly fed up with the crap)

"te detesto' means I detest you which is essentually the same thing, but "te odio" is more litterally "I hate you" and is most commonly used.

Yes, that is correct. Both of those phrases have been directed at me by a certain HDR chica. :lol:
