Hi guys

Firstly, I absolutely HATE to be that guy. I promise I'm not lazy and I'm RTFF as we speak.

However, I have today been offered a new job which I am accepting. It starts in October and I'd love to take a quick trip to SJ (my first ever visit). I had gotten close to making plans previously, but I couldn't take the time off in the end.

Anyways, I would likely be there for a week at the end of September. So I have time to plan and research. BUT, I kinda need to make a decision now as to whether to visit or not. The flight prices are already kinda high?

My initial thought is just to stay at SL in one of the $115 per night rooms. From there, I assume I can get to other places relatively easily. $115 is at the very higher end of my budget, but I don't think I'd like a courtyard room as I expect it would be noisy. Would anyone have recommendations for somewhere else that my be good and within my budget.

Secondly, am I correct in assuming that $100 would still relatively easily get me 1 hour with a chica? I'm ok with that rate. If it makes any difference, I'm in my early 40s, overweight and my Spanish is limited (but I have been learning, just not intensively as I wasn't expecting to be able to make a trip so soon).

Those are my two important criteria! I'd also hope to book a rainforest tour and something sloth-related. I should have time to research and book that, having 3 weeks before I travel, but please let me know if you disagree.

Again, I'm really sorry to ask these questions without fully researching. This opportunity has literally just come up and I'm feeling overwhelmed with trying to find flights and also research SJ generally. I promise I'm RTFF also right now, but as I need to move fast, I wanted to get any input that anyone was willing to provide on these points (and a last minute trip generally) while I'm trying to decide whether this last-minute trip is feasible. Especially as it would be my first time in the country.

Thanks for reading!

The SL is a good choice for a first visit. At the $115 level I would pick one of the rooms in the Mansion Wing. They are pretty isolated from the bar noise but you can always get a noisy neighbor. The Clubhouse area can also be nice. I have stayed in the Amistad room before. It is larger than the modern wing rooms but a bit older. I quit staying in it since it has one of those bath / shower combos. Getting too old to navigate that tub for a shower.

I didn't have any woman quote me more than $100 so you will be fine. Always confirm full price and services before you go back to the room. A lot of guys on the forum will tell you that you are overpaying at $100, but if you just want to grab from a bar like the SL or Taormina, that's probably the best you will do if they don't know you. Since you have a couple of weeks you might try Tinder or Badoo. Some guys have luck with those sites and report getting good rates. If you do, don't give out your room number and meet them in the bar.

Flight prices are outrageous right now. I would avoid Spirit if you have to connect somewhere. Plenty of nature oriented tours. If you are somewhat fit, the whitewater rafting is a blast. The Sportsmens will help you book tours if you cant find anything before you leave..

Since it’s your first time to Costa Rica, never tell the Tica it’s your first time. always always tell them you come every six months or so.if they asked tell them you don’t like Jaco. You only go down there for fishing. Also SL will be the best choice for the first timer.

I personally prefer Hotel Castillo (down the block from SL) as it has the all inclusive. In which might be comparable to the SL but all meals and drinks are included at the Castillo.

Go to Amistad. It's literally a block away from SL. Not to discredit SL but if budget is your concern. Step onto the street from Amistad, and look to your right and BAM! There is SL. Amistad is even dropping her panties for you. Rates are cheaper than they've ever been and breakfast is an additional $5 per night. No chica fee.

Matt is a pretty cool guy. He's the owner of Amistad and Castillo. I'm sure you will hear him. :-)

As for $100, yes. That's pretty much the going rate unless you do a pension. I went to one pension and never returned. The girls looked under age. Also, don't be friends with them or think of them as a normal girl. They're not! You will get played if you think anything else. Those girls are good. Just pay them to leave.
