Was not aware of that, if you apply for residency does that change anything ?
It is kinda a pain in the ass running an extension cord across the street from the Taormina and flushing the toilet with bottled water gets expensive.
Actually, in my case, the apartment I rent is owned by an anonymous corporation "sociedad anonima". The electricity [CNFL] and water [AYA] are in the name of that corporation. I can check the balance online and pay at any Servimas [inside Walmart, Mas x Menos, etc]. My cable and Internet (Cabletica) are in my name, but they did require local phone number and several references. I also pay this at Servimas. I use the one inside the Walmart in Tibas where I also withdraw colones from the Scotiabank ATM inside. FYI I also use a Kolbi prepaid card (from SJO) which gives me prepaid cell minutes and roaming Internet (for GPS, Uber, Waze).
Question Boynton: how did you go about getting references to have the cable & internet in your name? I mean, who were they? Friends? Ticos you know (e.g. landlord)? Other businesses you have a relationship (e.g. a bank)? Just wondering what type of references they're looking for, especially if I'm trying to establish these type of services within the first 90 days I'm there.
