Hey Everyone,
Newbie to the boards and never been to CR, but I am planning a future trip. I’ve been lurking here for a while now reading up on traveling and how to get around etc.., but I haven’t really seen anyone ask or post anything to something in particular. Instead of beating around the bush, I’ll just ask outright; how do the ladies, and I guess the area in general interact with black people. One of the reasons I’m looking towards going beyond actual relaxation, is I’m frustrated with of seeing ads that say “no AA”. And let me point out I’m not one of the young “thugs” that everyone seems to think are out there. I’m in in my early 40’s, professional career and just looking to relax and have fun.

I’d hate to spend my time and money travelling to another country, just to get a similar attitude and treatment I can get staying at home. I’d like to hear from anyone who can offer insight, but if any fellow black/African American mongers that have been already I’d really like to hear your experiences.

I am from Chicago and I can tell you this.....there will be NO problem with that issue. If you have money in your pocket you will be more than welcome.

I've talked to several middle age black guys who came here, you're just a different variation of the gringo with a credit card and cash in hand, they'll love you. I see middle age and up black guys here all the time and like their white counterparts, their problem is getting the smiles off their faces, it's tough.

The girls sometimes don't care for young guys, black and white because they work them too hard and often are drunk and crazy. A nice quiet calm cool black or white middle age and up guy with condoms n cash is welcome everywhere.

C'mon down and get in on the fun, there's more than enough for everybody! :!: :!: :!:   8)

A good question.

Based on observation, when face-to-face, generally no issues. The girls like money.

However, Costa Rica is a pretty homogeneous society. Black Costa Ricans (or 'Afro-Caribbeans') are 3% of the population and until 1949 blacks were forbidden to live outside Limon province (which is why Puerto Limon had a distinctly different culture).

I've heard Ticos casually say things that would get a person crucified in the US and no one reacted, but then again there isn't really any 'political correctness' in Costa Rica (or identity politics if you will).

And it's interesting how Ticos categorize. The bartender at our Lodge (who is originally from Bluefields, Nicaragua) says she's the only real black person in the village (900 or so folks). But my staff manager is black? "She doesn't count because her family came from Jamaica".

Most black Ticos are descendants of the Jamaican workers brought into build the railroads or Nicaraguans to work the coastal banana plantations (Ticos basically didn't) and were outside 'mainstream' Tico society (the Central Valley) until the 1950s.

Mi novia is mestizo (part 'aboriginal people' - i.e., Indian) and we've discussed it. She says many working girls start off with preconceived ideas but lose them when money is involved. And not being a douche helps.

The more I read up on it the faster I want to get there. As it stands I'm planning for March.

This is good to hear. I don't even drink beer as I never acquired the taste for it, just drink about everything else. And I've never been drunk in my life. I never could let myself be that loose, especially out in public.

i was at SL last week and there were several middle aged and younger black dudes there, all having fun. For what its worth, one of the older but still energetic guys brought in one of the hottest chicas i have seen there on Saturday night. Spinner with a great body, young and playful. He was showing her off to his buddies and even brought one of her friends along for one of them.
With my eyes wide open, I asked where he met her and he said at the del rey the day before. I was impressed no matter who was with her....There is a good time to be had, just look for it!

Hey MM, All the time I've been in CR I never saw any issues between White, Black or Asian Ticos, but many Ticos have an unashamed hostile loathing to Nicaraguans, if American PC Police ever heard some of the things they say and shockingly some of the things even the more educated Ticos believe about Nicaraguans, they would all collectively faint.

The worst of it is, pretty much everyone Nicaraguan that I have met down here has been polite, gracious, respectful, hard working, hoes have a reputation of satisfying and I strongly lay testament to that, but the regular Nicaraguans I have met so far have all been wonderful people, so I don't get it... :?: :?: :?:

I think everything that was posted is true. I have sat at the bar and talked with several black guys and they didn't have any problems with Ticas not hitting on them while we were sitting at the bar. Just a smile will get you hit on... One guy told me he lived here in CR for two years and rode a quad runner and had no bad stories to tell but the subject really never came up.
All you need is CASH!
