Is there a trick to finding spanish-only speakers, like at Del Rey or SL ? A major reason for taking such a short trip to CR in August is to challenge myself, between now and then, on how much spanish I could master.. but it'd be a waste if I find english speakers only lol.

Maybe talk to locals/insiders in any of the places, who already know a lot of the girls and seek them out ?

Yeah, I thought of doing this.. but if I keep finding myself having to say: "Por Favor, hable mas despacio", they'll revert back to English. I like burning bridges by having to speak spanish. Plus, I heard from some guys at tjamigos that they had funner sessions with the spanish-only speakers for whatever reason.

I may take up diego1 up on his advice, about mp's.. but then who knows when I get there.

Very few of the ladies speak English well enough to carry on a conversation. You will probably encounter more at the SL who speak some English than at other places. I think you will not have any difficulty finding Spanish-only speakers in any MP you go to.

Not annoying at all to me, it's good to hear that someone is taking an interest in learning the language. Let us know how your trip went.

I guess I'm dedicated to the latina specimen. Eventually I will move somewhere permanently near a Caribbean beach near a lot of them

Basically if your Spanish is better than their English you will be speaking in Spanish with them. No problem there.

Generally that is the case for me...however when the girl speaks better English than my Spanish I have no problem with that. Once in a while I will speak only Spanish...and the girl English. That works okay too.

What I like the most is if whoever I am talking to can correct my Spanish...pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, whatever. That is truly a gift. Of course only if that person is a Spanish speaker. I'm not fond of fellow gringos trying to "help" when they basically don't even know what they don't know. But that is rare too...most people are somewhat tuned in to their own level of the language.

Yes, being corrected by natives is the ideal way to help in mastering it.
There's a meetup group locally here for practicing spanish, but there are not a whole lot of people committed to being there.

If you speak to them in Spanish, they will speak to you in Spanish - very simple!! Believe me they would much prefer to speak in Spanish than try to carry on a conversation with a potential customer in their broken (at best) English. Out of the estimated 3000-3500 chicas working in all venues there are probably less then 100 who actually speak enough English to carry on an intelligent conversation; maybe 100-200 more who know enough to negotiate a session in English. And as mentioned, probably the majority of all those are either working at the SL or they are high-end ******* (where you will find most of the really fluent English speaking "working chicas").

In 23 years of mongering in Costa Rica and a total of 55 years mongering in Spanish speaking countries, I only remember one who after I started speaking to her in Spanish did not respond in Spanish. And that one still insists on speaking to me in English because "she is trying very hard to learn English"! For 10+ years and her English is no better today than it was 10 years ago!!! But she tries!!

Diego1's commit about going to the "most out of the way MP" was really kind of funny!! Out of almost 100 MPs operating in the central valley right now I seriously doubt you will find 20 chicas who would even attempt to carry on a conversation in English. And most of those are in the 2-3 "Gringo" MPs. Right now I only know of 1 chica in Relax, 1 in 360, and none in Monicas who even speak a little English, and non of those 3 MPs are "out of the way"! I certainly do not consider my current favorite MP, Casa de Flores, to be "out of the way"; but I am the only Gringo customer they have, and no one there speaks English at all!!

To the OP, point is, you will NOT have any problem finding chicas to talk to you in Spanish!!

A few years ago there was an English teacher called Pamela working at MP Relax who said she made more money working there then working as an English teacher in Costa rica
