When leaving the DR or SL with a chica how do you know which taxi to take? Last time I was there there was a row of red taxis right outside of DR, and me and the girl would just naturally hop in the first one in line and head off to the hotel.

However it occurred to me that this could be pretty dangerous.

When leaving delrey ....never take a taxi that is parked , cross the street and wait for one to roll up, at sportmens if you must take one that is parked ...tell him where u are going then say 1000c it the price to most everywhere and always have a 1000c in your hand as you dont want a taxi to make change , we will be in jaco on wed and thurs , then san jose friday till wed ...maybe our paths will cross

The taxis that are parked outside of DR and SL will cost you more because, as I understand it, they have to pay the hotel for the "privilege" of parking there - - - - and YOU will pay for the "privilege." If that's not actually the reason, then it's just an ordinary rip-off.

I was surprised to find the same situation with a taxi parked outside of LA recently. For some reason, I thought that LA might be "above" that. Maybe Matt is not involved.

We got in and got rolling, and I noticed that the meter was not being used. It was late, without very many other taxis near LA, so I kept my mouth shut. The taxista said that the short trip in the gulch was 3,000 ($6). It should have been less than 1,000. Metered taxis are allowed to charge more after a certain hour at night, but 3,000 is a rip-off. We all "live-and-learn."

It's ALWAYS better to flag down a rolling, red taxi.

It is discouraged to take these taxis because they tend to not use the meter and rip you off, but other than that they are legit?

I don't plan on using them, I will take yalls advice and flag down a taxi instead but sometimes a taxi never passes you by when you need it most and its just easier to get into a parked taxi.

Any red taxis with a yellow triangle on the door are legit. taxis, even the ones parked outside of a hotel.

If they don't use the meter, you're going to be "taken for a ride" in more ways than one...... but they are legit. and should, generally, be safe.

Another type of taxi to beware of is the hot meter....after many trips I call the price of the with in a few cents ...had a taxi try to charge me triple from sportmens to freebird ....if I didnt have my 1000c ready I would of been screwed...threw the 1000c and hopped out as the driver was screaming at me ....always check the meter when getting in and when you see it first go up .....

Bottom line, pretty much 95% of the ones parked in front of any establishment are lazy pieces of shit who instead of drive around looking for customers, sit in front of a hotel/bar/restaurant and take advantage of unknowing tourists. Just flag down a passing taxi, and ask Maria ("meter")? If they say no, wave them away and grab the next one.
