There is absolutely no way you are going to be stopped and questioned by any U.S. military authorities in San Jose. Why? Because there are none.
Actually, there are 3-4 of them in the Embassy's "Office of Defense Cooperation" and probably a platoon-sized USMC Embassy Guard detachment. But no attache office or a MILGROUP.[/quote
Embassy duty is a nice gig for the USMC in CR, they must know somebody, or be haven medals. Just keep a low profile and nobody will hassle you. Enjoy your time in paradise.
No sh!t. Only the best of a certain kind of best are chosen, especially for "cake duty". Another kind of best are chosen for this in, say, our embassy in Syria. Semper Fi, Brothers. I doubt any place we recommend will be troublesome and also your having reached out to us pretty much guarantees that many more guys looking out for you (we're uncles, not Daddy's or First Sergeants, comes to that).
On a sober note--we need men of your generation (25-40) to refresh us--if we are the value/source you've found valuable, please spread the word discreetly that for combating fatigue and military ennui, Costa Rica is the place and we (and now you) are the source.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I went to PI twice (Angeles City) and Bangkok 5 times in my 2 years in Viet Nam--it fulfilled then what I said now about CR.
