You do know that the national language in Brazil is not Spanish, right?

and that there are NO Ticas in Rio

But seriously... If you have zero spanish and zero Portugese (Brasil Nacional Idioma ) Brazil's National Language. I would highly recommend CR for a 1st timer to Latin America. You can get by just fine with zero spanish. Very safe if you are smart, not a drunk in public, etc.

Parties can be found every night in CR at Sportsmens Lodge, Key Largo and several other spots in town.

Read this and lot of questions will be answered...

Tica means Costa Rican female - not prostitute - although some ticas are.....forget it, I think you know what I mean!

Its a peeve of mine (and likely others) - and you really piss off people in CR using the terms interchangably -

I live in costa rica, and have been to rio (along with many other places).

Unless you go really high end in costa rica (some of the very expensive strip clubs), I would say that rio unquestionably offers a better p4p experience to the new user than costa rica.

English is quite widely spoken in costa rica, it is not widely spoken in rio. eg: it's the uncommon taxi cab driver in rio that will understand even a little english, it's the uncommon taxi driver in costa rica that will not speak at least a little english. Nearly all restaurants in costa rica will have bi-lingual menus, in rio perhaps maybe 30-40% of them will, and nearly none of the cheaper places will.

Rio though, on average will be more expensive than costa rica because of the strength of the brazilian economy. If you want to go to tourist friendly places in rio (like the thermas L'uomo or Centaurus), you are going to be spending 150-200 dollars a lay. (There are much cheaper places in rio, but as a first timer and not speaking portuguese i would not recommend them). In costa rica, your price will range from about 30 usd to 125 usd per lay. (massage parlors to very expensive del ray girls).

The biggest difference though is the quality of the girls. In rio, you have to be really unlikely not to get a wild sexual experience with a great looking girl at least half the times you partake. In costa rica, you have to search and be lucky to find a really good sexual experience with a good looking girl, especially if you do not speak spanish. (yes, you can find girls at some of the massage parlors that are good in bed, and have some great times with the girls at HLH, but i would not call them stunners, at least in my estimation).

Rio is unquestionably more dangerous than even downtown san jose. However, in nearly all cases, if you play it safe (don't wander around after dark, take a taxi even for a 2 block ride at night), you will have to be very very unlucky to have a problem.

Hope that helps
