I was looking around for an introduction area/ subforum but didn't see one so I'll just put my greeting here. I have read about Costa Rica and have done some research. I knew about the action in San Jose but I guess I didn't know just how popular it was... 20k members here damn.

I've done some traveling in latin america and other parts of the world, but I haven't done any recently. Mostly it was done when I was still in college. When you have a full time job (ESPECIALLY managing a retailer) its hard to get away for a vacation. Due to this I recently decided to switch career paths so I can work a more normal day schedule and get some time off to travel. The money was good (especially in this economy) for somebody young, but I just don't see the use if you don't have any free time to use it :?:

That being said I joined the forum to continue my research and become as informed as possible. From what I can tell I've seen one stop rates out of Omaha as low as $325 round trip. I've also seen hotels and apartments that look pretty good from 50 or 60 bucks a night. So that'd put me at $745 for 7 nights which seems like a heck of a deal.

Now I've never "mongered" before, but I'm not a shy guy. Just in general I am familiar with the latin culture and completely understand if you act like a pu*sy whipped gringo you are going to be eaten alive by most of the latinas.

Anyways I'm in no rush but I do have some goals. I'd like to go down and enjoy myself in T******* and EVENTUALLY find a good one to eventually settle down with (no not a working girl i'm not crazy 8) ).

My only other interest is San Pedro Sula, Tela, and La Ceiba. I don't know how popular mongering is there, but I'd like to visit there as well. I hear good things about Colombia too both for mongering and finding girlfriends. How great the relationships turn out I have no idea. From what I hear guys that go to the Philippines have the most luck long term. Anyways that's all from me... glad to be here.

if you're planning a trip to CR, then you should join the board so you have access to all the maps, pics and all the reports/info.

plus the discounts on rooms, food, services, etc.....

I remember when I first discovered this board, and after making up my mind to visit, the decision to join the board was a no brainer.

I saved the membership fee on the first day on room and services discounts.

not to mention I had access to a map of tons of MP's, hotels, casinos, cafes, etc....

hope you get to visit one day as well as all the other places you mentioned.

yea i'm going to visit... sadly as a new employee i'll have to wait until november to get a full week off to go. but then every 3 or 4 months I should be able to go.

I'm as interested in the nightclubs catering to young ticas/ticos and malls, cafes around the red zone, etc as I am what goes on in the red zone. I took 2 years of spanish way back in high school and I'm going to the bookstore today to start my own refresher course. I'd like to be able to speak to the girls in those places and tactfully find out if they are semi pros or just "good" girls interested in a tico... or maybe american boyfriend.

the more spanish you speak, the more chance you have with a non pro.

most visitors don't have time to romance a non pro and just stick with the pros.

however, there is plenty to do in CR and speaking spanish helps.

Ticafan--Consider also the Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur CD-based Spanish courses for the pronunciation. Plenty of info here on those--each has its adherents.
