Puravida,

Yes it may be strong sterotyping, but I am also sorry to see that you have lived here 3 years and are still disillusioned in believing that ALL Ticas do not think that ALL GRINGOS ARE RICH and almost all are more than willing to take ANY GRINGO for all they can. Believe me, even the "wealthy" Ticas look at Gringos as being "rich". And by their standards, most are!
Most of the ones that aren't out to get your money also have a very strong dislike for Gringos, and want nothing to do with us.

At what point did I refer to ALL ticas? You said that in 12 years, you've only met 1 tica that was not looking for a sugar daddy. IN 12 YEARS?!?! I don't know, perhaps you're hanging out in the wrong places?

I've lived here for 3, and know roughly 70ish ticos that speak english, that have no problems with gringos, and that are not out for the money. I do agree that for the majority of ticos, they think that all gringos have money. That, however, does not equate to all ticos wanting to take our money.

I'm not sure where you live, nor whom you associate with, but your opinion of ticos is highly distorted. Do you live amongst ticos? Do you speak spanish with them? Do you treat them with respect and the dignity they deserve, as we are guests in their country? Do you make an effort to educate yourself about the customs, traditions, and history of this beautiful country? Have you learned how to cook their food? Have you learned how to joke and talk slang/pachuco? Esta morado o manudo?

I don't live in gringoland, nor anywhere near it. And most of the bad things I hear about Costa Rica; I read about them on here. Maybe it's just that my friends and family, both foreigner and domestic, and I, don't make themselves targets, and strongly believe in the virtue of karma.

I don't get it. Did CR Migracion start denying foreigners the right to exit? Have we all been kidnapped? NO. Why the strong dislike for such an awesome place, that YOU ARE A GUEST OF. If you don't like it, leave. Trust me, if this is how you genuinely feel about ticos, they don't want you here either.

Puravida,

It was not my intention to get into an arguement with you over the virtures, opinions, and feelings of Ticos. I will admit that using the word "all" was a bit strong. And, yes, I do spend a lot of time in the wrong places; places like 15 de Septembre in Hatillo and other "slum" areas. If you know 70 Ticos that speak english, you are right, we do not hang out in the same places. The only time I speak english is when I am with fellow CRT members. I live in San Pedro and non of my tica friends speak english. I have spent much of my time for 25 years working with and helping, when possible, the latin comunity. My X is Colombiana and I have dated nothing but Latinas for more than 10 years. My 1st "novia" here is the grand daughter and great grand daughter of former presidents of this country so yes, I do know a little of the history.

I have been in love with this country, its history, and its people ever since the 1st time I came here. And, yes, I cook and eat almost exclusively Tico food. You can have all the American resturants here.

I walk in areas and talk to Ticos where most Gringos do not go out of fear. This city and country are no more dangerous (actually less) than most large cities in the states, and I get tired of all the negative coments about the dangers here. Sure there is petty crime problems in the gulch. Hell, if you were going to mug or rob someone where would you go? Where the drunk gringos with money are; right? If I have to live here or anywhere else in fear, what is the use of living.

I have a very high opinion of, and respect for most Ticos(as). I know how little many of them have and understand why they think Gringos are rich--Hell we are compared to most of them. I understand why many ticos dislike gringos--We have probably done more to distroy their economy and cause the high annual inflation than any other factor. Gringos are a major cause of the damage to their environment, forests, and rivers. And many Ticos see Gringos as a bunch of old men coming here for the sole purposr of plucking their young chicas. And many Ticas see us as having a lot more than they have, and that we do not need, so therefore why not take what they can get from the gringos? This is not ment as a critizme of ticas-Hell people all over the world look at Americans that way, and why not--we waste more than most people in 3rd world countries will ever have.

I am truely sorry if I gave you the very wrong impression that I do not like Costa Rica and it's people. The things I do not like about CR today are mostly a result of American influence

ALSO I APPOLOGIZE FOR TAKING OVER THIS THREAD.

damn BB57...

MOST of the non-working ticas I know don't think that Americans are any different than they are.

None have been with their hands out to me or my friends, when they have come with me.

As for meeting a non-pro w/o speaking spanish, you're really better off heading to the "expensive" parts of SJ, Ezcazu, Sabana, etc... There you're more likely to find the girls with english...

As to "El Pueblo", LOTS of working girls there, from DR, ZB, NF, they all seem to head there - it's not really a place to meet non-pros... You may not pay for it, but there's a good chance of her being a ho...
