Where is the best place to exchange money? What about at the airport, but not at the baggage exchange? I'm staying at HDR. What exchange rate should I look for, at the minimum? Thanks!

At the airport go upstairs to the bank and exchange there. If you are in the gulch, the Colonial offers a good rate where most guys exchange their cash.

PS - Pay the $39 and join!!!

Also, take cash with you and exchange for colones at the UPPER LEVEL, not the baggage claim area where you could lose 10% or more in the exchange...

If you use a credit/debit card, you will be charged an international currency exchange fee in addition to atm fees....

When you check out of your hotel, ask how much in dollars and also in colones... The current exchange rate is 497-500 colones per dollar... Whichever is cheaper, pay in that currency....

I always carry both currencies... Try to pay in colones for most everything as every establishment has their "own" exchange rate... And it is not favorable to you...

When you leave from the airport exchange your colones back to dolalrs at the upper level...

This info just saved you a minimum of 50-60 bucks... Invest $39. in a CRT membership and enjoy all the other benefits, savings, info, and don't forget the VIP foto gallery also....

Pura vida... 8)

I always exchange dollars for colones at the bank on the 2nd floor of the INS BUILDING. Walk in the front door of the INS, go right 20 paces, up the escaltor to the 2nd floor, walk to the right 20 paces and you're there. 8) A guard standing at the door of the glass enclosed bank.

The departure level is the upper level...
When, you pick up your baggage (lower level for arrivals), get your taxi and have him leave the terminal then circle back and go to the departure or upper level...
He will park and chill for a few minutes while you enter the terminal, take a right and at the far end is the currency exchange...
Then exchange your dollars for colones, but keep some $....

I use dollars or colones (whichever is the most advantageous rate) for hotel checkout....
Dollars are used for the HDR girls...
Then usually it's colones for everything else...
This means bringing much more money than you need, but at least you don't get scalped every time someone does $ for colone exchange...

I thought it's colone for the girls. Not $s. Correct? For the airport to the hotel ride, dollars or colones?

Have you bothered to read anything on here, or do you just ask questions.

I don't think he could explain to his Mommy why he needed to borrow the credit card. Plus, to make a real trip he would have to leave the basement he lives in.

Hey Costarica10,

Check out this :)

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting

Spend 40 hrs reading the board and use the SEARCH KEY. Everyone of your previous questions has been asked and answered many times before, this can be aggravating to the many contributors of the board.

Just a friendly suggestion should you wish to enhance your experience in CR and on this board

Hey, how 'bout dem Cowboys!!!!! J. Johnson '92
