Hi,

Heading down to SJ this thursday (10/26) for business and will have the evening hours open. Found this site and have read some really good info for the newbie! Just joined as a VIP and very glad i did! Thanks!

I was wondering where any other of the CRT members will be on Thursday and/or Friday night. I would like to hang out and pick your brain on the latest and greatest that SJ has to offer.

I am staying at the Interconnential. I have looked at several maps and am still having a difficult time placing exactly where the hotel is in proximity to the various clubs.

Thanks,

Gopherman

Gopher,
how long will you be in town? Check the roll calls to see who's around- https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12933
CRT's usually meet up for "happy hour" around 5 in the BM bar or out in the lobby bar of the HDR. (hotel del rey) Others can be found at the Sportsmans Lodge.
The Intercontinental is out in Escazu, about 20 minutes by taxi and may not welcome female guests but probably will with a high guest fee. You could get a room downtown for your nightime activities or just visit the Mp's and strip clubs.

Thanks for the reply Paco!

I will be in town until Sunday morning. I did not realize the hotel was so far out. Is there another "upscale" hotel in the area I can go to? I think the Intercontential has a 24 hour cancellation policy. Or would I be better just staying put?

Just a couple of quick questions.... How much is the average fare for a taxi from the Interconnential to downtown? ( I really am not looking forward to figuring out the conversion rate before each transaction - plus not looking for the "scenic" route from a taxi to get downtown)

Will I have a problem finding a taxi in the wee hours of the morning to take me back to the hotel? Does the fare increase for "midnight" hours?

Just a little nervous about jumping in and getting "wet" (no pun intended). I spent 5 years in South Korea and have spent many a dollar or Won on evening entertainment. So i am not a total newbie :)

Looking really forward to having a "business vacation" while I am there.

Thanks!

Gopherman

Yes a jr. suite at the Presidente or Amon Plaza would work for you and probably much cheaper than the InterC.. High end you could consider the new Hotel M, I think all 3 currently have CRT VIP discounts available.
Taxi's about 6 bucks and are plentiful 24 hrs. As far as what you should do depends on your business situation, if it doesn't really matter where you're staying then get your ass downtown with the rest of the lunatics. :)

You won't have a problem finding a taxi at any hour but be forewarned. Red lights are pretty much optional to totally ignored the later the night gets. Just grit your teeth, hold on tight, and say your prayers. If you have a chica with you maybe she'll hold your winkey for you. Don't worry though. You'll make it to your destination ok.

Also, the conversion rate is pretty simple with just a little practice: From colones to dollars, drop 3 zeros and double it. ie, 1,000 colones, drop 3 zeros, then double the remainder = $2. For dollars to colones, add 3 zeros, then divide by two: $1, add 3 zeros, then divide by 2 = 500 colones. It doesn't take too long.

Also the Holiday inn Auroa is downtown and they now have a CRT dicount rate and are suppose to be a 4 star hotel. But they have a 25.00 guest fee. The del Ray is only 3 to 4 blocks away. Do not walk it after dark though. Or the Presedente would be good for you to.

Down load the CRT map from the VIP section to legal paper and the massage palor and bar list. There is a new Club called pirates that is suppose to be good. Also the Bar at the Hotel Del ray is always a good place to meet people and ask Questions.

Gopher,
Something else to consider is that if you plan on taking a chica back to your hotel in Escazu, she will most likely want to be compensated for her lost time, besides her "fee". My first trip, we rented a house in Heredia, which is a little further out, maybe 30 minutes. A few did't even want to bother going that far, but the ones that did wanted extra money because of the distance.

You have many options: get a hotel closer to the gulch (Prez, Holiday Inn, etc), use a short stay hotel for your fun at nights then go back to the IC to sleep, visit places that have rooms onsite (Zona Blue, Idem, Pantera Rosa, Kamur, Pirate, etc.), or stay at the IC and bring girls from HDR there.

You guys are giving me some great ideas!!

I agree with taking one back to IC may not be the idea situation, especially since I dont know if the IC will charge me some crazy charge to bring her in.

I think the best bet is for me to prowl around the places you mentioned and have the most fun I can before heading back to the IC for a couple of hours of sleep before heading back in for another prowl.

Anyone know off the top of your head what the average taxi cost will be to go from downtown to Escazu? I was all set to rent a car from Alamo and then told them to cancel it due to all the crazy driver stories i have heard. I am just wondering if it would be better (and cheaper) for me to just rent the car after all.

I look forward to hanging out with any CRT'ers while I am in SJ. First drink is on me!

BTW - Anyone out there have a good prowl route, i.e. "First start here... then go here... then you REALLY need to go here"... ect.. ect....

Thanks again guys for all your replies! The trip is two days away and I am getting anxious!

Forget the car, use the taxis. Find out how much you should pay on this board to avoid getting ripped off.

Route to IC from the gulch is very direct. You might want to copy these directions in case the taxista claims not to know where it is :(

Avenida 1 oeste
Calle 20 sur
Paseo Colon oeste
Calle 42 sur
Auto Pista Prospero Fernandez oeste
Salida Multi Plaza

Hotel Inter Continental is across the street from the Multi Plaza mall

God luck and enjoy :D

I already answered that.

Guest fee at IC has been rumored to be between 25- 50.00 ouch.

1)Start at the HDR,
2)find some CRT guys,
3) follow your penis

Paco,

Please advise where in SJ i can get reading glasses. I must need them.

Sorry for asking twice on the taxi cost, I misread your email, must be the old age setting in. (40)

Thanks!

Hi:

Maybe try the Sleep Inn. Approx. one year old. It is next door to the BM/KL with a casino on-site. Somenone staying there highly recommended it. YMMV

Saturday night the Sportsman's Lodge is having a Halloween Party. Come on by.

Health & happiness.

There are also a couple of short term 'hotels' that you could use if you are locked into the intercontinental. La Officina is reasonably close to the action and has nice rooms. Not as expensive as your guest fee and only the minimum taxi ride, more or less. If you need directions, PM me.
